This is not the city page for the shelter anymore this is the previous page we can only share what the city lets us know we are very sorry that this causes confusion and makes it hard to get these dogs into rescue. If you are from Louisiana please please email your mayor City admin and council members and let them know that this is not a good way to run the shelter.

Rufus is possibly in danger. We're not sure if the city will let the public know if he is going to be euthanized but the pound is at capacity. We don't know much about him except he loves people but other animals not so much. There is $ 200 pledged so far towards vetting for a great adopter or rescue that pulls him. . If you want to help save him please speak up now. We don't know how much time we have.

There have been a lot of questions about the name change for the cities new pound page. Below are the definitions of Pound and Animal Shelter per the Animal Care Facilities Act. The City of Louisiana does run and fund the pound (along with donations) and is responsible for all decisions so it is technically a pound and it looks like they want to make that clear. The minimum standard requirements for care are the same. The new page seems to be just to post the animals that are there or picked up. No questions have been answered and most comments seem to disappear.

Here are at least 3 dogs currently at JCMAS. We have no information other than they are currently at the pound. Any questions should be directed to the city of Louisiana. There is at least one more that was barking, but it was shut inside so no pictures or idea what it is

Not sure if any cats are impounded at this time. There was 1 so it could still be there possibly.

I would like to encourage everyone to please get in contact with your city officials and find out why the FB page they made was only up for about 3 days and per City Admin they are making a new in the next couple of days( this was last week). The longer these animals are at the shelter without pictures getting shared it could lead to a death sentence for them. We want all the animals that come through there to have the best possible chance at adoption/owner reclaim/ rescue. Please contact mayor, city admin, and council members and let them know your thoughts. Your tax dollars and donations keep the shelter going so there should be access.

We need your help to get these 2 girls shared. Gizmo is on the left, she's a little Leary when she first meets you but warms up quickly. She is highly treat motivated, and loves to be loved on. Layla on the right is highly toy motivated, she has never met a toy she doesn't want to play with. She gives you plenty of personal space , but still loves when you play with her.
Both of these girls are spayed, Layla will need her vaccinations updated. These girls have been with us the longest and we all know that puts them in the most jeopardy, we really need to find placements for both of these, and yes we have been reaching out to rescues it's just very slow moving right now. We have a few more to reach out to as well. If you have connections please share. If you are interested in pledging to a rescue that takes them please let us know.
Both of these girls do not like cats at least not ones we have had in kennels here. Gizmo would probably be better suited to mid aged people or people who don't get a lot of company until she is more comfortable in social settings.
