Hey all, just wanted to say if you’re in on some of the drama that I am ok, but very much needed to pull my personal facebook - Abigail

Unfortunately due to divorce Starfall Farm is on hiatus. We will be selling our two acre urban farm in the south of Louisville shortly - would love to see it go to another urban farm.

I wish we were posting under better circumstances. Unfortunately, there’s not much to say except that Preston Arts Center is in desperate need of your immediate patronage. How can you help?

First and foremost, stop by and buy something from our store! We’d love to see you, and have a great new location at 8101 Warwick Ave.

Second and still pretty great: buy a gift card from us! Visit the link in our bio!

Number three is free: Share this post. Leave us a Google review. Tell a friend about your experience with us. Spread the word that Preston’s is a kind of okay place to shop.

Thanks,
Andrew Preston

I wanna be a sheep taking a nap in the shade…

Unfortunately, we are rescheduling our open farm day to the fall. If you still want to come out sometime this weekend, please just send us a message! Since it’s been a pretty chaotic spring we’re looking forward to resting so we can come back better in the fall 🙂

We hinted at something cool a few months ago. Now it’s finally here! New album release, featuring Starfall sheep!

Starfall recently was able to collaborate with Louisville’s own Andrew Montana, an up-and-coming musician who creates what we like to describe as intimate rustic folk music. Andrew, his partner and social media manager Olivia, and his crew asked us to use the farm to shoot cover art for his new album, American Pastoral.

The photos are fantastic and we wish Andrew and the crew all the best and with this new album. Given that he’s already touring around the US, we expect great things from him!

American Pastoral is available on Spotify and anywhere albums are sold. Check them out!

Check out Andrew on instagram and tiktok:

On Sunday we moved the sheep to & grow and it proved a little more exciting than expected. Our least cooperative sheep escaped with her lamb and lead us on quite the adventure. Eight (!!!) people, three hours and too many miles later we were able to get them. Anyone want a Dorper ewe? 😬

Super grateful for all the neighbors who assisted us, including Jolene and Pendleton Farms!

We have three lambs who are happy, healthy and enjoying the sun! Unfortunately one of our Dorper ewes got mastitis, which turned into “blue bag”. This means that one of her udders is dying off. We are so grateful to Hillside Animal Clinic, Inc. for providing knowledgeable vet care for our sheep!

Spotted lantern flys are about to be a big problem. Every little bit helps.

Now is the time to be proactive against spotted lanternfly! Scraping and destroying egg masses this winter will help decrease the number of spotted lanternfly that hatch next spring. Spotted lanternfly lay egg masses on trees and other smooth surfaces outside, including campers, grills, boats, and sheds. An egg mass will be tan or brown and have the consistency of mud. If you find an egg mass, scrape it off with a credit card, place it in a Ziploc bag, and add rubbing alcohol to the bag to destroy the eggs. Each egg mass can contain up to 60 eggs, so egg mass scraping can effectively manage spotted lanternfly on your property!

Last week Mac was still a little unsure about this whole house cat deal. Now he’s climbing into my lap and runs to me for attention! Every cat that makes it into an indoor home doubles their life expectancy and helps our native bird population ❤️ If you think Mac or Mustache would like to join your family, they’re available in Louisville, KY but can be transported before Christmas to Cincinnati OH, Columbus OH, or Wheeling WV 😊

Donkeys are not horses, although many want to treat them like horses. They can require specialized care

Baby it’s cold outside! ❄️⛄️

Many people think of donkeys as hardy, low-maintenance “small horses.” However, while they have similarities, donkeys are a completely different species and as such have a different physical, mental, and emotional make-up.

As the weather gets colder, it’s important to remember that donkeys are more sensitive to changes in temperature than their equine friends. They don’t grow a winter coat like horses and their hair is less waterproof, so they require shelter from the elements (like a run-in shed or a waterproof blanket). Being stoic animals, they also won’t show signs of discomfort and hypothermia until they are very sick.

Remember that every animal is different depending on age, breed, and other health conditions, so be sure with your primary veterinarian to address any concerns or questions!

Goals 😍

My favourite view point.

Horses being horses, free choice at its finest. Some choosing to snooze, some choosing to eat, some choosing to be in, some chosing to be out.

As it should be 👌

Shutting a horse in solitary confinement is never the solution, and shouldn't be the norm. It's time to make the change.
