A huge thank you to all of our clients for being so understanding for our last-minute closure and cancellations/reschedules today. Car accidents are no joke! After a check-up at the ER, everyone will be just fine. (just a little sore) We will resume normal business hours tomorrow.

As most people have heard, there is a "mysterious respiratory dog illness" that is showing up in small canine populations across the United States. With the clickbait headlines of "can be fatal", "mysterious dog illness", "unknown cause" etc, etc, it is easy to become overly concerned.
When you break it down, the AVMA reported Oregon showing a spike in an unknown canine respiratory illness. https://www.avma.org/news/oregon-dealing-respiratory-illness-incidents-dogs
In the summer of 2022, New Hampshire had some dogs showing symptoms of this now media-worthy illness. https://colsa.unh.edu/new-hampshire-veterinary-diagnostic-laboratory/canine-respiratory-outbreak
There have been ZERO reports of the illness in the state of Kentucky. https://www.whas11.com/article/news/local/mystery-dog-illness-louisville-case-animal-shelters-vets/417-a60fb9e2-7c56-4756-b7ca-842b021a2aba

In order to be proactive, we will be following the Oregon Medical Veterinary Association's recommendations, because this is where the illness appears to be most prevalent. https://www.oregonvma.org/news/reports-of-severe-canine-infectious-respiratory-disease-in-oregon
IF, in the last 24 hours, your dog has had a cough, sneezing/congestion, diarrhea, decreased appetite, and/or low energy? If so, those dogs should visit only when feeling well again and your appointment will be rescheduled.
Additionally, we will begin taking the temperatures of every dog entering our grooming facility next week. If your dog has a temperature of over 102 degrees F, you will be rescheduled (and encouraged to see your veterinarian)
We already utilize a highly effective, safe antimicrobial germicide between each dog and for the cleaning of our kennels.
As someone who worked in the veterinary field for years, dogs can contract illnesses anywhere an infectious dog has been, no matter the virus. This includes not only dog parks, kennels, grooming facilities, veterinarian offices, pet stores, and your neighborhood sidewalk; but ANY place an ill dog has been.
I am urging pet owners to use common sense. Please do not succumb to the media hype and social media buzz and panic. There are some sources stating to avoid grooming altogether. As this is OUR expertise, let us do our job by continuing to keep your pets matt-free and comfortable. We understand dogs are family. Our dogs are our family too. We do not want to risk your dog(s) any more than we want to inadvertently risk our own dogs by bringing an illness into our own house.

Cases of the potentially deadly illness have been reported in several states—including Indiana.

We want to give a shoutout and a BIG THANK YOU to our friends at Pawfection Grooming Salon 135 St Matthews Ave, Louisville, KY for getting down and dirty with our newest intake, Sweet Tater! This pupper was a dirty little mess and we really needed to assess skin condition upon intake into the rescue! This little guy is timid, but oh so sweet, and Pawfection Grooming Salon is perfect in understanding and working with this behavior.

Today's the day! Give for Good Louisville! Blue Ridge Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is an up and coming animal welfare organization run by a caring individual whose heart is in it for the animals. They really could use your support. If you can't donate, share, share, share. If you donate today, send us a message and we'll take 20% off your next groom.

Good morning friends! It's time to kick off the big day of giving with the GIVE FOR GOOD LOUISVILLE campaign!! It ENDS AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT so please, consider a donation to Blue Ridge Animal Rescue & Sanctuary!
https://www.giveforgoodlouisville.org/organizations/blue-ridge-animal-rescue-sanctuary

Why to give you ask? We all know costs are astronomical for food, vet care, transportation, the list goes on! We're a small rescue and rely solely on grants and YOUR personal donations! Adoption fees usually cover only the standard medical costs to vet a relatively healthy animal. However, when you get anything out of the ordinary, such as illness, broken limbs, etc, then you have to look elsewhere to pay the bills.

https://www.giveforgoodlouisville.org/organizations/blue-ridge-animal-rescue-sanctuary

We're counting on your generosity today to help us cover this little guy's rising costs! He came in as a seemingly healthy puppy, then ran into a stroke of bad luck after 1 1/2 months and begin having seizures. We are trying to control them by medications; so far he's on two, but as he grows, we're seeing breakthrough seizures which are difficult to get back under control. He has the grand mal seizure jerking of the head and uncontrollable leg movements. He foams at the mouth but that's lessening as we get into this venture. Lately, the seizures are longer, around 20 minutes or so. We always make sure we're with him! Even while in the seizure he knows we're there! He's usually draped across the lap so his crazy legs can run in the air when he's in the middle of a grand mal seizure and we gently hold his neck area because his head jerks up and down. We speak softly and gently pet him, reassuring him that hopefully it will be over soon! He is a special needs case and unfortunately, he's had a little damage done. He is often restless and when he gets to run around, supervised only, he goes full tilt. He rarely walks, he RUNS and often crashes into things. He has been to a specialist and it's a 50% chance they can come up with a cause and/or possible solution with an MRI that will cost $3,500.00. CRAZY EXPENSIVE! We love this 27 pounds of puppy and we would be ever so grateful if you could help us continue to give him the loving care he deserves!
