Look at this very handsome Maine C**n and an impressive collection of toe beans!
This big guy was born with 7 toes on one foot! Unfortunately, the extra digits were not just a quirky feature. The abnormal anatomy created a large prominence of bone—essentially an oversized “knuckle”—that repeatedly rubbed through the skin and caused a wound that would not heal.
Because the underlying problem was structural, simply treating the wound was unlikely to provide a lasting solution. So our good friend at Boston Road Animal Clinic reached out to us. We surgically removed two of the malformed digits, including the problematic section of bone, while preserving the remainder of his paw, as much normal function as possible, and plenty of those beloved toe beans.
At his two-week recheck, the incision is healing beautifully, the chronic wound is gone, and he is already putting the foot to good use.
Sometimes the best way to heal a wound is to correct the reason it developed in the first place. We are thrilled with his progress—and happy to report that this handsome Maine C**n still has more toe beans than most! 🐱
