Unconditional love is phrase most associated with God, a higher power, a spirit of goodness. Could you see God creating an animal to whom you can communicate with your body and heart, a language well understood by a well-bred canine, without ever speaking a word? A spirit of gentleness and loyalty comes from them. We give of our time and patience. They settle into a home of acceptance and give dedication to a new person and/or family who chose them. "That's the one. I want that one. I'll name him/her ....." A relationship begins that will carry for over a decade and will remain in memories and hearts for far far longer. The perfection of joining of two hearts, two lives who are unmistakably meant to be joined for healing, comfort, support and many other reasons. Unconditional love from a furever friend. That chosen dog is the epitome of what God gives us and teaches us in His word to give to others. They show us how by giving it to us. It's a relationship that will require dedication from the person, but it continues to reward us for a far greater time and with much more weight than what we know to look for until we have it in front of us.
My dogs show me how to love others. My dogs never forget to show love, even on bad days. My dogs never hold on to a grudge. My dogs show me how I should love myself. My dogs remind me what grace and acceptance truly is. My dogs show me all this in the way they love me and receive love from me. For this I will be forever grateful, for that is unconditional love.
