Thursday morning, around 4:30 a.m., one of our Community Partners, CRC-Paws Cause, received a call from a friend who saw a random post from a truck driver about a small dog who had been set out for the trash, next to the dumpsters. Randy Tipton from CRC raced to the location, put the icy rain soaked pup into his truck and drove away from the nightmare location.
The doggie was covered in f***s, soaked with urine and terrified. A warm bath and blow dry was necessary before being able to be groomed at Bark and Bubbles. The pups paws were matted with so much fur that it could barely walk and the toenails were curling under. This is a case of dire neglect. A vet visit showed a high white blood cell count, low weight, terrible teeth and severe trauma. A very injured leg was discovered under all the fur and may need to be amputated. The doggie is on IVs and spending the night at the vet's office. A visit to a surgeon tomorrow will reveal more information about the possible leg amputation.
Please let us be able to show this little dog that kind people like all of those who helped with the rescue do exist and that all people are not like the absolute monsters who threw the pup out with the trash.

Update- because of your generosity, we are able to keep Tilly and mom in the hotel until Saturday morning. It breaks our heart that mom and Tilly will have to back outside. Our lovely, formerly compassionate city, has become hostile to our most vulnerable people. Lack of affordable housing is the #1 problem.

We need your help. Tilly, a tripod dog ( back leg amputated) and her mom have been living outside for a big portion of their lives but time is catching up with mom and due to health concerns, she is no longer able to be outside in the horrible weather. Being female and houseless means not only are you responsible for daily needs such as food/shelter, but keeping safe from predators is a real thing. We've seen it so many times and that is what makes this such a desperate plea for help. Their hotel time is up tomorrow morning. If you would like to donate please go to

A big thank you to Plantation Animal Clinic for their generous donation to My Dog Eats First. Plantation took two truckloads of pet food and supplies over to the Chimney Rock, North Carolina area to help the pets affected by the flooding a few months ago. They had some excess and we will happily distribute it to food pantries in Portland, the West End and the Highlands.

Good advice.

Good advice.

We are always doing all we can, 6 days a week to round up cats for spay/neuter. And a few dogs here and there. If a pet owner or caregiver expresses the need for food assistance while we’re getting pets fixed, we help with that.

Pets4Life Louisville helps with supplies and very low cost vaccines, to keep pets in their homes.

My Dog Eats First is stocking up neighborhood pantries with free pet food.

Kentucky Humane Society has a pet resource help line for sick/injured pet vet visits. We’ve had several people utilize that recently and KHS provided a $100 voucher towards the visit. We paid the remaining balance if the owner couldn’t.

Louisville Metro Animal Services is handing out vouchers to pet owners for $30-40 spay/neuter with many extra services included. 📣 People going to get them: don’t let that piece of paper go to waste! It is a valuable piece of paper that many people need.

There is a small army of people behind the scenes moving mountains to get urgent dogs spayed. Some of them are spending their own money to get other people’s dogs fixed, because they know that having a litter of puppies is more costly and detrimental to our community than one spay.

Please ask for help if you truly need it and if you don’t truly need it, please don’t take advantage.

Please thank your local rescuers who do things the right way. Maybe buy them a coffee ☕️
