Heartbreaking Update: Remembering Slater 💔

So often, we share the hopeful, exciting, and heartwarming stories that make this work so rewarding. But the truth is, animal rescue is also incredibly hard, and days like today leave us heartbroken.

Despite our best efforts, the best veterinary care, and thousands of dollars in surgery, we are devastated to share that our sweet Slater didn’t make it through his recent operation. Slater had an obstruction and subsequent infection in his bowels, and while we fought as hard as we could to save him, his little body just couldn’t overcome it.

During his time with us, Slater was so deeply loved. Our staff and volunteers made sure his final days were filled with comfort, kindness, and care. He had soft beds, warm meals, gentle hands, and more love than he probably ever imagined.

This is the hard part of rescue—when love isn’t enough to heal them. But we take comfort in knowing that Slater felt the love and compassion of our ACS family in his final days. We’re especially grateful to Maddie & Haleigh, who stayed by Slater’s side as he crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈

Care for animals like Slater is made possible through our Spirit Fund, which provides emergency medical treatment to animals in need. In honor of Slater’s memory, we invite you to make a gift to the Spirit Fund to help us continue this lifesaving work.

Together, we can honor his life by giving other animals a second chance.

🕊 Rest in peace, Slater. You were so loved. 🕊

About ACS

Founded in 1984, ACS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit No Kill adoption agency for dogs and cats. We’re a privately funded, volunteer driven organization whose financial support comes solely through annual subscription memberships, donations, and adoption fees. We receive no federal, state, or local government funding.

We speak for the voiceless and lead by example in our ongoing work. We provide responsible and humane treatment to our dog and cat guests until we can find them appropriate homes.
