Meet Athena, our sweet nine year old, "Thena Beana." For over 750 days, she’s been waiting in our shelter for a family to call her own. Though she takes a little extra time to warm up to new friends, once she trusts you, she’ll give you a love like no other.
Athena is dog and cat friendly, knows her basic commands, is about 43 pounds, and has so much to offer. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers adore her, but life in a shelter for more than two years is just so unfair. Every day, we see the sparkle in her eyes dim a little more as she waits for her forever home.

Earlier this month, while making rounds on our campus, we found an injured dog under a tree along Westport Road. Unable to walk, she dragged her hind legs behind her as she struggled to stand. Our team sprung into action to get this pup the immediate care she needed.
We affectionately named her "Westie" and rushed her to the emergency vet where she underwent surgery to repair her broken femur, receiving a plate and eight pins in her leg. Westie's care was paid for through our Spirit Fund and cost nearly $8,000.

A recent tornado devastated the Humane Society of Muhlenberg County, leaving their facility flooded, damaged, and ravaged by winds. Animal Care Society has partnered with them to bring in a dozen of their dogs, who arrived safely (with tails wagging!) this morning.
And now we need your support to care for these canines! 🐶❤️
Our shelter was already at full capacity, and now with these 12 beautiful doggos, we are well over capacity! Here's how you can help:
