We have had a few cases of mycotoxin poisoning recently. Its not a poisoning that folks are generally familiar with, so we thought we'd share the information to raise awareness.-

Ingestion of mouldy food from the bin or a compost pile puts dogs, cats, horses, livestock, and even wildlife at risk for toxicity due to tremorgenic mycotoxins. These toxins may be found in MOULDY bread, pasta, cheese, nuts, or other decaying matter like compost. Clinical signs include vomiting, agitation, incoordination, tremors, seizures, and elevated body temperature. A specific mycotoxin called aflatoxin can even cause liver failure. Be sure to keep mouldy food and compost out of your pets reach!

🦅 New Patient Alert: Bald Eagle 24-249 🦅

We have a special new arrival at Raptor Rehab of Kentucky!
Bald Eagle 24-249 was found early evening yesterday by a sheriff's deputy in Carrollton County, Kentucky. The deputy kindly waited with the bird until help could arrive. Our rehab manager, Brigid Kunzler, and volunteer Morgan Kimberly rushed to the scene, safely containing the eagle and driving it the hour back to us in Louisville.

This beautiful bird appears to have been hit by a vehicle, as it has significant bruising and road rash, especially on its face and around the left orbital socket. Unfortunately, it also has lead poisoning, a common issue for bald eagles who often scavenge carcasses left behind by hunters using lead ammunition.

We are committed to providing the best care for Bald Eagle 24-249, but we could use your help. If you'd like to support its recovery, please consider donating and sharing this post.
Your generosity makes a huge difference in the lives of these incredible raptors. We simply wouldn’t be able to do this work without your support.
Thank you for being a part of our mission! 💚
