The Green Cheek Conure!
These species are native to South America. GCCs come in a wide variety of color mutations. They are great family birds and are known for their loving, clownish and curious personalities. They are extremely playful and love to be out of the cage and with their human companions. Considered a "starter bird" they do not have an intense noise level and of great size. As with any parrot companion, training is required but we are here to help!! Ideally, the minimum cage size for this bird would be 25’’ long, 21’’ wide and 29’’ high with ½’’ wire with spacing. However you should be focused on education, nutrition, and conservation. Also, that parrot companionship shouldn’t be a lack. So prior to wanting to own a GCC, you should again be provided with information on proper housing, creating a safe environment, diet, behavior, hormones and much more because it’s a lifetime companion. Always go for hand fed baby that are weaned on to a high variety diet, fruits and veggies.

Education is so important when it comes to getting a parrot. It is just as important to help the feather baby discover the new family as providing guidance on bird care to them. Familiar things such as training perches, harness, clicker and target stick all help the baby feel at home. And positive reinforcement based training offers a common language which can be used by the new family and help the bird settle in.
Many people don't realise how intelligent parrots really are. Most of the medium to larger species have the intelligence level of a 3-5 year old human child. They can learn names of things and people and have even shown signs of self realization, meaning they know its them when they look in the mirror (most animals do not). Actually learning words and what they mean instead of just repeating what we say as we once thought they did. It's well documented that crows frequently learn to use tools and teach other crows but this is the first instance I've read of a parrot learning then teaching other parrots how to use a tool! Pretty amazing!
