Yesterday, Bella and two of the incredible firefighters who rescued her were featured on the news. It’s been an emotional journey, but we’re beyond grateful for the heroes who jumped into action to save her.

Watch the full story below.

The horse had fallen through the ice and spent about 45 minutes halfway submerged in freezing water before crews were able to rescue her.

Our Bella girl is hanging in there and in good spirits, showing even more improvement last night and into today.

She’s still on a steady regimen of medication and fluids, including Banamine, antibiotics, probiotics, and BioSponge to help soothe her gut. She’s also enjoying warm bran mashes with a rehydration feed to keep her strength up.

She gave us a little scare with a mild colic on Sunday, but thankfully, she’s been doing well since. Now, we’re keeping a close eye on her kidney levels with daily bloodwork.

Through it all, Scout has been the best companion, keeping Bella company while we monitor her water intake, appetite, and, of course, those all-important p**p productions.

Thank you for all the love and support—keep those good thoughts coming for our sweet Bella!

On Sunday afternoon, Loveland Fire Rescue Authority bravely rescued one of our horses who had fallen through the ice on a frozen pond here at the ranch. Using rescue straps, teamwork, and sheer determination, the firefighters were able to safely pull Bella from the water.

Thank you LFRA for your swift and heroic efforts, along with the support from Thompson Valley EMS and Berthoud Fire Battalion Chief 61.

From all of us at Sylvan Dale, we’re so grateful for the men and women keeping our community—humans and animals alike—safe.

A Valentine’s Day duo with a whole lot of heart!

Thank you for being part of our Sylvan Dale family. Over the past 79 years, we’ve had the joy of watching friendships and love flourish, and hearts connect right here on the ranch. We’re so grateful for you and are already gearing up to welcome you back for more memories in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies.

With love, laughter, and maybe a bray or two…
From all your friends at Sylvan Dale ❤️🐴

The lyrics played softly on the radio as the Uggen family drove home from Sylvan Dale Ranch in the summer of 1959. In the back seat, Judy Uggen let quiet tears fall, knowing this week had been too good to be true. Her heart wasn’t heavy over leaving the fishing, horseback riding, or the swimming pool—she was thinking about Carl Nemecek.

Carl had been hired as a handyman that summer, but to Judy, he was much more. What she didn’t know was that on her last night at the ranch, the strange sounds on the cabin roof weren’t the wind—they were apples tossed by Carl’s practiced tennis arm, hoping for one last stolen moment together.

That summer love didn’t fade. Letters and phone calls between Minnesota and Illinois kept their connection alive. In 1961, they married, officially joining two longtime Sylvan Dale Ranch families. And where else could they honeymoon but right here, in the place where their love began?

Decades passed, but the mountains never stopped calling them. In 1994, Carl and Judy returned, this time with four generations in tow, filling Mama J’s Guest House with laughter and love. That same week, surrounded by college friends, they renewed their vows at the Friday night ranch party, celebrating a love story that had come full circle.

And in 2001, for their 40th wedding anniversary, the Jessup family planted a special apple tree at Sylvan Dale—a lasting symbol of Carl and Judy’s love and the place where it all began.

In honor of love week, we’re sharing the romantic stories that have shaped the heart of Sylvan Dale—starting with Maurice and Mayme “Tillie” Jessup, the couple who started it all.

1935: Tillie was balancing on a desk, placing books on a high shelf, when she heard footsteps echo down the hall. Before she could climb down, Principal Barnard swept into the room with two new teachers in tow. “Come in here, boys—I want you to meet the cutest secretary you’ve ever seen.” Maurice Jessup looked up at Tillie, and she looked down at him. From that moment, they were smitten.

Fast forward to the summer of 1946, when Maurice and Tillie’s love story led them to a dream—purchasing 125 acres along the Big Thompson River and turning their vision into what we now know as Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch.

Their love built more than just a home—it built a legacy. Stay tuned as we share more heartwarming love stories from the ranch this week!
