We share our days with a wide variety of dogs with different socialization histories, play styles, personalities and temperaments at our day school! We take all that into consideration when they are here with us, ensuring we're setting up each individual dog for success! No cookie cutter plans here, and that's exactly how we like it!! π€πΎ
Enrichment is a BIG part of our Enrichment Center! Enrichment for dogs can come in many forms, but here is one! Lindy and Katie are learning all about puzzle feeders. Puzzle feeders can be fun for dogs that are food motivated, and we also love it for building confidence. As long as the feeder isn't too challenging, letting the dogs figure out how they work can provide a sense of self confidence and accomplishment! Just like in people!
At the beginning of these sessions, Lindy and Katie had no idea how to use these toys, but by the end of 15 minutes, they were pros! This is also a fantastic way to work your dog's brain to tire them out!

We love platforms! The foundations of teaching your dog to station on a platform are pretty simple.
Invite your dog onto whatever surface you would like to use as their station (platforms here). Then deliver lots of treats for them being on it! Repeat over a long period of time, and your dog will start to target that spot. Then you can put this on cue.
Here's some of our dogs doing their very best to demonstrate this! Featuring Winston, Sugar Bear, Ribsy, Vivian, Lakota, Blue, Hadley, and Winston again at the end flying into place!
Sweet Griffin the collie is one of our newest day school members, and is excited to follow his big brother, Max's lead with his platform training! That's right! These two handsome boys are brothers from the same household that join us on different days at the EC.
Griffin is just learning about stationing on the platform, and man he caught on quick! It only took him about 5 repetitions to get to this point - that's incredibly fast!
Two paws up for Griffin and Max!
Alright, we know you got 'em, let's see those winter sweaters!!! Zoe says she's crushing the competition with this hoodie!
Check out the cutest new addition to the K9 Wisdom Enrichment Center! Meet Clover! We can't wait to see all the progress you make with us little man!
Happy Halloween from the K9 Wisdom Team!!! ππ»π

We had a few dogs show up to our Day School today in full costume and just had to show them off! Fly boy here is feeling very colorful and going for the abstract look, and Suni is channeling bat-dog!

We hope everyone has a fun and safe Halloween! ππ»

Everyone say hello to Hadley! πΆπ the cutest little teddy bear out there!
.
Hadley knows so many things, itβs hard to cram a lot of it into a one minute video π€―! In this video, Hadley is demonstrating her beautiful whistle recall off of a scent outside. This can be a hard one for a lot of dogs, but Hadley has worked extra hard to be able to do this!
.
In addition, her awesome check in skills on leash and ability to follow through with well known behaviors quickly outside when asked. We like to teach our dogs that if they engage with us, not only do they get food as a reward, but they also get to go back to sniffing and moving forwards! Yay!
.
Hadley has also mastered her stay, and we can ask for it basically anywhere at this point. π
.
After all that work, one of Hadleyβs favorite games is snuffling for treats in the grass. Which also happens to be a great calming decompression activity you can do at home with your dogs as well. πΆ

On Sunday, I took advantage of the cooler weather to get Sidekick out to test out his new hiking backpack I've been acclimating him to the last couple weeks! Here's a breakdown of our first walk in the backpack harness. Notice how I keep his brain busy and don't give him much time to fuss over the odd movement the backpack makes.
Do you use a backpack for your dog? Let us know how that first walk went and drop a picture of your pup rocking their pack!
Let's see your dirty dog or bath photos! Drop comments below π
How do your dogs do when being bathed and groomed? Clover and Ska are seasoned pros, but Sidekick is still a bit unsure as to why I'm torturing him!
This bath was the best yet for him, and he went into the tub on his own and ate treats throughout his entire bath!
Why is it important if he eats treats during his bath? Because it gives me a read on his stress levels! Dogs will not accept food when they're anxious, stressed and over threshold. The fact that he ate treats during my bath tells me that he's becoming more comfortable with it, and that to me is what's most important!
Got Puppy? We have socialization classes! Come join in on the fun of our puppy classes and learn how to properly socialize your puppy to set them up for lifetime success!
Sidekick has shown some dog-dog reactivity these last few months after he experienced a negative interaction with another dog.
Yesterday I tested him in a highly distracted environment where other dogs were present, children played soccer and screaming toddlers ran all around us!
I was beyond proud of him! He was focused, grounded and happily played, trained and worked for different reinforcers without too much micromanagement on my part.
He looked at other dogs quietly, would disengage on his own to play tug with me, and happily observed and greeted countless children!
Adolescents is a challenging time to be a dog, and you can help your puppy come out with a resilient outlook by ensuring your puppy receives proper socialization and training! Stick with the training and you'll see your pup will really shine after you get over the challenges of adolescents!
