Moments like this after a lesson are my favorite ❤️

When Apollo Equestrian started in 2017, I didn’t set out to have my niche be people returning to riding after time away from the sport. Today, more than half my riders are adults of various ages and backgrounds coming back to riding!

It’s rewarding to see all my riders excel- from seeing a beginner rider “get it” for the first time, to seeing experienced riders unlock a new skill… but watching rider remember how much they love horses is a whole different kind of cool!

2024 has been a year full of transition and change, our fair share of challenges, but also some amazing growth.

We started the year with a move from Fort Collins to Loveland, and, while it was sad to leave behind our friends at our long-time home, returning to Kayenta Equestrian allowed for a massive upgrade in what we are able to offer our clients and a huge opportunity for growth. I am incredibly grateful to the owner for making the move back possible, and sharing this facility it’s us.

We welcomed a new assistant, Chesca, who has been a great asset to Apollo Equestrian’s lesson program and a contributor to our ability to expand!

I literally stole Bella from the lesson program and decided she would be a Sarah horse… at least for now 🙃 I’ve never been a “mare person” (who else has noticed that all the horses I bought for myself are geldings, and the horses I bought for other people to ride are the mares?) but Bella is a really special mare.

We added two new horses to the lesson horse string in 2024- Tao and Tom! They’ve been amazing additions and are teaching our riders so much.

We survived a wildfire evacuation- an experience I am not eager to repeat but, if I must, I know that I will be wiser, braver, and better prepared for this experience. I am also incredibly grateful to have gone through this with all the people I had to help.

We are ending the year during a very busy time- yet I’m reminded daily by the riders, fellow boarders, friends, professionals, and most of all the horses that even when horses are hard, they are worth it. Most of the time, my dream job is my dream job. I don’t HAVE to chase this dream, but I GET to.

I know there is nothing magical about the 31st of December becoming the 1st of January, yet it feels like an opportunity for a fresh start, a time to reevaluate goals, and point the ship in a new direction. As Charlie Chaplin once said- “Nothing is permanent in this wicked world, not even our troubles.”

Huge thank you to all those who support me, the horses, & the riders. Not only are my dreams possible, but the dreams of those who I support. ❤️

So long, 2024, it’s been… an adventure. 2025- ready or not, here we come!

We are expanding and have a couple spots opening in January!I look forward to meeting you ❤️

Watching how someone saddles a horse can be a mirror for other parts of their training methods.

Most quiet trainers will first, obviously, make sure that the horse’s back is clean. Then they will put down any under pads, then gently place the saddle, NEVER slamming it down, probably a bit forward, and slide it back to the correct place,

When they tighten the girth, they tend to do it in stages, not by wrenching it, NEVER by kneeing the horse in the belly.

Once again, the process is non adversarial when done right, forceful when done wrong, and this reflects a general attitude that spills over into other aspects of the schooling and training.
