August 2024 Update to Clubs
AKC’s Title Application Portal (TAP)
AKC has developed a new online system to help make it easier for dog owners to apply for their dog’s AKC title. It is called the Title Application Portal (TAP). The portal offers a fast and simple, step by step experience to apply for titles offered in Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog, Temperament Test, Fit Dog, Fetch, Barn Hunt, Diving Dog, Disc Dog, Flyball, Virtual Home Manners, Search and Rescue and any one of the titles recognized under the Parent Club Title Recognition Program. Users will need to login or create a MY AKC Account to begin. Dog owners can see each step of their transaction complete in real-time and confirm their order. Anyone needing assistance can contact [email protected] or call 919-816-3637.

Extended Pilot Program for Three-Legged (Tripod) Dogs in Non-Jumping Rally and Obedience Classes
In May 2023 The AKC Board of Directors approved an 18-month pilot program allowing tripod dogs to participate in the non-jumping obedience and rally classes beginning July 1, 2023, and ending December 31, 2024. At the August 2024 AKC Board of Directors meeting the pilot program was extended through June 30, 2025.

Application Fee for Conformation Events with thirty or less entries the previous year.
To be consistent across sports, the Board of Directors approved a twenty-five-dollar application fee for conformation events and combined conformation/obedience events with an entry of thirty or less at the prior years event, effective for applications received for events occurring on or after July 2, 2025.

This is always asked, and I like this graphic that explains the differences between service dogs, emotional support and therapy dogs.

Another thing is CGC (Canine Good Citizen), this is an AKC ‘title’ but shows a dog has it basic matters. My understanding is that some campgrounds, hotels and home rentals require the CGC.

I am an evaluator for CGC. Also, I volunteer for Alliance of Therapy Dogs to test teams for certification.

Those of who with children in the home please read.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

Super fun walk this morning!
Congratulations to Meadow, Brooklyn, Cinnamon and Panini for earning their Fit Dog Bronze title- and Berkeley earned his Fit Dog Gold! They completed other activities and this Fit Dog Walk was all they needed for their title!

We are planning a Fit dog walk! How fun to walk your pup and chat with others while walking! All dogs and their people are welcome! Dog must be on a leash, and I would bring water for after the walk!
We will walk Sprice Geove Ext. Let’s meet in the parking lot at 7:30am on June 12 th..

They smelled a rat! Super fun day- both the pups and people had a blast! We are doing every Thursday 8:00am through June (and the rest of the summer but may change days)! Let me know if you will let your dogs play next week! I will
also do privates!

Barn hunt tunnel approved by my Berkeley - the clear tube is to help new dogs see the rats and get excited- then we move to the solid tubes.
