What is my guided c**t starting program?

In this program owners and their young or unbroke horses will learn all the important steps and pieces of starting a horse.

This starts all the way back with a solid groundwork foundation to build their confidence as a team and give them the skills they need to be successful under saddle.

With my guidance these young riders put a solid ground foundation on their horses. They get to do everything themselves I am just there to guide them and help when needed. Then once the ground work is solid these riders get to put the first ride on their horses all on their own (still with my guidance).

This is my absolute favorite thing to teach. I love watching these girls and their horses blossom into confident teams with a true love for just being together. Putting a first ride on a horse is something special, but putting a first ride on your own horse after putting such time and effort into preparing them is just something magic✨️.

No matter what discipline you ride or what breed your horse is, the prep work is important. So is loving every step of the process. With my guided c**t starting program that's exactly what I teach. The pride of starting a horse doesn't compare to the pride of watching these girls do it themselves. It's truly incredible to watch these amazing teams grow and I could not be more blessed to be able to do this. ❤️

How a horsewoman knows she is rich:

I am rich. I have $15 in my checking account and a golden mare in the barn.

I am rich. I have a car that mostly works and enough gas to get to the barn every day this week.

I am rich. I have boxes of pasta and generic sauce in my pantry and enough hay to feed my horse through the winter.

I am rich. I have enough old coats and sweaters to layer up and stay warm while I do barn chores.

I am rich. I vacation by camping with my horses and going to cheer on my horse riding friends at horse shows. Sometimes I even play too, and spend $1000 to bring home a fifty cent ribbon that I will treasure more than a photo in front of the Eiffel Tower.

I am rich. I have tools: duct tape and baling twine and the know how to fix just about anything with these tools.

I am rich. I find joy in making my own things, making do, and making right. I have a 20 year old saddle, a 35 year old body, and the wonder and joy of a 6 year old child learning that a horse can give her wings.

I am rich.

My wealth is not measured in dollar signs but in horsey snorts and nickers. My riches aren't spent on electronics and fancy clothes but are shared with my human and four footed friends.

Next time someone finds out that I have a horse and says, " You must be rich to afford that" I will smile, and agree.

Ride number 8 for Olivia and her filly Charlie! This was also their first time riding in a new arena and they even did their first flying changes! Not perfect yet but what a great start! They got the change each direction, just came a little unbalanced on the first one 😅

What a super star team! And Olivia should have a future in pony starting if you ask me ;)

When considering getting a mustang please make sure you take time to think about all the important parts.

1. Do you have a mustang friendly facility? This will depend in what horse you are getting. If you plan to bring home a wild one you'll needs some kind of pen that you can work with the horse in but it also needs to be safe. If your mustang is still under contract you will need 6'+ fencing but some may need more than 6". If you turn your mustang out in a big pasture with no training you better hope they come in when they hear a grain bucket or good luck catching them.

If the mustang is already trained AND titled then you can probably have shorter or regular fencing (depending on the horse).

2. Do you have the time and knowledge to train your mustang? If you don't, do you have access to a trainer who does? A mustang cannot just be a pasture pet with no training. They need basic handling incase they ever need to be trailered somewhere or for when they need to see a vet or dentist or farrier.

3. Do you have the patience for a mustang? Not every mustang will be perfect or easy. Some will take a long time to even be gentled while others can be trained in a week.

Please understand that mustangs are amazing horses but that doesn't make them an amazing horse FOR everyone. Please make sure you take time to do your research and think about all of these things before getting a mustang.

Mustangs can be great kids horses, Performance horses, sport horses, therapy horses, trail horses, etc. That's the best part. They can be anything you want them to be. But only if they get the right care and training.

Please don't take on something you can't handle. It's never good for you or the mustang. If you are looking to get a mustang but don't think you can train one yourself don't worry. There are plenty of trained mustangs who need good homes and most states have great trainers who can help if you find one that isn't quite trained yet.

I've been really slacking with the virtual library. If anyone would like to join the EK Horsemanship virtual library please send me a message. Videos will be posted more frequently and that will be where you can ask any specific questions or ask for specific videos to be filmed.

I'll also offer a discount to anyone who needs training help with a specific issue with their horse (or even themselves) and also wants access to the library. (Meaning you will get a training session and access to the library at a diecount/package rate)
