It’s probably time to get baking for the season! I’m hoping to make some goodies for my own family member’s furry pets.

Also- Aaron is booking up board and training spots for our IK9 Trainers business. If you are going to be boarding your dog over the Christmas break, why not have them trained at the same time, right? Mention it to your friends. It may be just the household gift they are looking for. (And there are some promotions in December!)

Life creates ebbs and flows. We are finding ourselves much busier with dog training than baking or boarding. Although we still will do that, we are excited to announce that we are starting our own dog training company! Please follow our new page: IK9 Trainers and share the news!

Even in the 2 weeks that Aaron trains dogs at our house, a bond begins between them. The dogs prefer him to the rest of the family. I can imagine this is amplified when a dog and handler work day in and day out like this story!

Our dogs got to go visit residents at a local nursing home/ care center. They both did great, but Rollo (the lighter dog) especially loved it. I’m not sure who was more delighted: Rollo or the residents. We are hoping to be invited back!

How the Kong ball was invented.

The Kong toy was invented by accident more than 40 years ago when Joe Markham needed a way to prevent his German Shepherd Fritz from biting on rocks and sticks. Fritz, who Markham adopted as a shelter dog, had worn down his teeth to one-third of the size they should have been.

He was working on his vehicle and tossed an axle stop with an attached bracket on the ground. His dog got hold of it and loved it. He was playing with it joyously, much to Markham’s amusement.

He said to his friend, “What do you think of my new dog toy?”

His friend replied, “Actually, it’s not too pretty. It looks like an earplug from King Kong.”

And the Kong toy was born.

Did you know?…….

National K9 Veterans Day is dedicated to those 4-legged heroes who have served since World War II. On March 13, 1942, the U.S. Army K9 Corps was formed following the noticed-success of European canines during World War I.

A monument to military working dogs is located at Joint Base San Antonio, representing handlers, dogs, and veterinary support from all military service branches that have made up the Military Working Dog program since World War II.

Thank you to the K9's and their handlers who have answered the call to serve.

This month we are happy to waive our typical fees and offer our consultation service for free! Whether you have a puppy or a senior, lets meet up and see how the relationship between you and your k9 can be improved.

Dog Training Education Month Activities

Go to a dog training class

Find a dog training class or activity in your city. Training a dog alone sounds exhausting - don't do it alone!
Teach your dog a new skill

In lieu of the 'training' part of this month, see how well your dog is trained by teaching a new trick or skill. Maybe you'll learn something new about your pup - what it likes or doesn't like.
Check out a new dog park.

Go to a new dog park around town and let your pup off the leash. Most dog parks don't require a leash as long as they are within the gated vicinity, and it's a great spot to let your dog run around while you catch up on emails or read a new book. It's a win- win!

The outdoors is a great place to let dogs act like puppies and for puppies to well, just be puppies. Dog parks, certain hikes, and open spaces are great for dogs without leashes.
Doggy wants a treat

Teach your furry friend a new trick to flaunt to the rest of the dogs in your hood. Treats can help with dog trick training - and what dog doesn't want a treat?
A friendly dog is a good dog

The only thing worse than a poorly trained dog running around, is the number of them that end up in the pound for bad behavior. Investing the time to properly train your dog, is investing time into a 'good' dog long term.
