To be honest not real big on posting on baby calves. But this little ET heifer calf has a colorful history and story to tell.
L1 GENVIR 430 is her sire. He was born in the spring of 1984. This may sound far fetched because I was born in February of 1979 but I can vividly remember him standing in the wooden catch pen early that fall of 84. I was helping dad sort cows off to wean calves. Dad circled him repeatedly that afternoon telling me how special that calf was. What was known about that weaning calf’s pedigree was recited to me multiple times on the ride home that day in 84.
He later became known as “black eyes“ because of his black pigmentation around his eyes. As a mature bull his black pigment , jet black tail and libido were noticeable to any that seen him. A true athlete that was as free moving as any bull I’ve ever seen. He herded cows like an bull elk and spent time different herds in a couple states. 430’s sire CL Domino 609 had his own history. He was born in March of 1966. Dad purchased 609 as a mature bull after seeing what he had did in a Nebraska herd. Knowing he was a 569 son helped as well. In later years remember dad saying he had seen poor udders in that Nebraska herd made perfect in one generation with 609. The 609 bull naturally serviced cows for dad at the ripe old age of 17 and lived to be 18. The dam of “ black eyes “ stayed in production for 16 years making the combined age of his parents 34 years. This is not something many bulls can say.
Oh and the bottom side of this heifer calf is our 176 cow. Couple weeks ago we posted the long history of that cow family on our ranch. Longevity is not something new to us. Meitler Cattle has been consistently different for a very long time. With no plans of changing anytime soon…..
