First touches are one of the most exciting things to experience with a wild Mustang! My husband got the honors with this gelding Waylon. It’s a team effort most of the time to get these wonderful horses and burros gentled and on their path to domestic life.
This gelding is 7 years old and was pretty flighty when it came down to trying to get first touches so the help of roping him and getting him giving to pressure really made all the difference in the world! Most the time I don’t move their feet much in the beginning stages but this guy was a bit different. This guy needed a different approach and we gave it to him and it paid off. From start to finish of this session was 2 hours. From getting him roped, first touches and getting a lead rope on and some leading. Sometimes you just got to push through to get those barriers knocked down. Excited to see the changes in this handsome gelding tomorrow!
Getting wild ones broke enough to be led by the dog 🔥
My handy Aussie is a great help around here ❤️
Shania has come a long way in trusting humans and learning about domestic life!
Barron was a champ today for his first trim EVER! At five years old he came to us barely halter broke. He has thankfully done a good job of keeping his hooves decently trimmed naturally due to rough terrain. But now he’s a big boy having learned how to get them trimmed! One step closer to being his owners perfect angel ❤️
🎉 Panthers first ride here 🎉
From starving to riding in just about a months time! It’s been very rewarding watching this boy put on much needed weight! I was pleasantly surprised that he was more broke than I had anticipated! Now to get some miles on him… build his weight and muscle up more and see where he goes ❤️
I got on first and then let my 13 year old Lexi hop on as take him around 🔥
Extremely proud of our gymkhana lesson kiddos doing so well at the gymkhana last weekend! They all have improved so much this season and two of them it’s their first year doing it! Most of them placed in the top 3 of their divisions!
Panther taking some zzzz’s during training. He’s one our recent rescue cases having come in under weight. He’s putting it on nicely ❤️
Barney dragging the tire with a lesson student ❤️
Duke was one of our trainees this past month… he came in to learn basic handling with a focus on trailer loading so he can later get hauled in to be gelded 🥰
Thanks Duke for being a great burro to work with… you may have had some opinions at first but you sure did blossom!
Zander the Zebra update! We have gotten first touches! He made me work for it! But when it happened… finally 😍🥹🔥 it still seems so weird to say I’ve touched a ZEBRA! Next up is working on haltering 🙏🏻
Blooper 🤣
Barbie said and for my next magic trick… watch!
Ranger has been one to make me think outside the box in getting him gentled… in part because of his size. He’s really starting to open himself up lately to more and more contact and learning and retaining things better. Here he is learning to tie for the first time 💖 lots of prep work went into getting him here. He didn’t once set back. He was just antsy!

Zander the zebra update! We started our work with me outside the pen just being present while he eats and gaining confidence in that. Then switched to me being in the pen with him doing the same thing. Switching to pursing touching him with the pool noodle got some flight and bit of kicking response, but we have made some progress! More recent video to come soon!
