Why Gopher Holler for a name? It seems kind of strange doesn't it?
The name Gopher Holler came from a conversation on a trip to the homestead, between our family members.
In our region, there is a large population of pocket gophers, and every year, we find evidence of them around our property, hills of soil pushed to the surface from their tunnel digging and searching for roots to eat.
Our homestead is on the edge of a little town in the high plains of Kansas, surprisingly enough, that little town is in a valley created by a creek that runs through the area.
Gopher Valley was suggested by one of our sons, but didn't have the ring to it that we liked. We brainstormed other names for valleys and I realized that our time living in Kentucky was the answer. In the south, valleys are referred to as hollers. We combined the two, and Gopher Holler was born!
