It is not without great sadness and a lot of discussion that we have to make this post/announcement. Effective Dec 31st, we will be closing Salvation Animal rescue. As most people were affected by the pandemic, it also found its way to non profits. Today, we find ourselves with a lack of fosters and very few grants to choose from with a very high number of applicants we are competing against. We have poured our hearts and lives into helping the unwanted pups for the last almost 7 years. We have rescued and rehabilitated so many, spayed/neutered a thousand plus at a low cost, vaccinated and microchipped hundreds at a low cost, had 2 therapy dogs that brought joy and smiles to elderly and children, volunteered for many charity fundraisers, and helped make Christmas better for numerous families over the years. We are so grateful for what we have accomplished and it was all because of YOU! Our supporters mean the world to us and we will always be grateful for you and what we’ve accomplished together as a team. We will sell low cost spay/neuter vouchers one more time this month.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell all of you amazing people, we lost a beloved pup today. Bear crossed over the rainbow bridge at 12 years old. He was the rescue’s registered therapy dog and he brought smiles and love to so many people in our community. He will be greatly missed. Fly high Bear. We all love you! 💔

Salvation Animal Rescue will be selling spay/neuter vouchers on Thursday, June 23rd from 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm inside the Burke’s Outlet Store in Lufkin

ONLY 20 VOUCHERS AVAILABLE. FIRST COME FIRST SERVE.

The cost of each voucher is $35.00*. (Limit of 2 per household)
Vouchers can be used for spay/neuter of a dog or cat.
In order to purchase a voucher, you must provide a valid ID
and a utility bill showing residency in Angelina County.
Vouchers are good for 30 days from the date of purchase and Non-transferable.

We are contracted with Angelina Animal Hospital for our spay/neuters.
Vouchers can only be purchased from Salvation Animal Rescue.
Once you have purchased a voucher from us you will then call
Angelina Animal Hospital to set up your appointment.

*Any additional fees acquired at the vet will be the pet owners responsibility
(such as current rabies vaccination , any medications, pregnancy termination,
animal in heat, e-collar, waste fees, etc.) but not limited to these examples.

We took Rocco into our rescue in 2017. He was adopted shortly after that. He has had a very good life. He was called home last night and we are deeply saddened by the news. Fly high Rocco. Make lots of friends, eat all the treats, run free good boy. 💔😢 a beautiful letter written to Rocco is posted in the comments.

We apologize for our quite page lately. As most of you know, we are completely volunteer based and have been dealing with the death of a parent and several other family things the past few months.

➡️ Let’s talk about chocolate, rat bait/poison, common foods, laundry pods, and common plants! ⭕️

☣️ RAT BAIT ☣️
Rat bait and poison are commonly put out around the house or outdoors to keep away nasty pests. 🐁 Unfortunately, your beloved pets may be interested in the rat bait as well, which can lead to SERIOUS health issues. The effects of rat bait/poison depend greatly on the type and brand of rat bait ingested. In most cases, ingestion of rat bait can lead to internal bleeding, organ failure, and even death. These symptoms can happen VERY fast after ingestion and often show first signs of vomiting or coughing blood, lethargy, and breathing difficulties.

🧠 Remember to keep a close eye on your pets if you set out any rat bait/poison. If you think your pet may have ingested ANY rat bait/poison, call your emergency Veterinarian IMMEDIATELY! 📱

☣️ CHOCOLATE 🍫
➿ Chocolate can be very TOXIC to dogs when ingested! Chocolate can lead to major illnesses and in serious cases, can be fatal. Chocolate is toxic because it contains a chemical called theobromine, as well as caffeine. ➿ Dogs cannot metabolize theobromine or caffeine, leading to vomiting and diarrhea. While not very common, some cases can lead to seizures and heart failure.

🧠 Remember to ALWAYS keep your favorite sweets AWAY from your pets. 🍫 If you think your dog may have ingested some chocolate, call your emergency Veterinarian IMMEDIATELY! 📱

9.27.21 Pupdate on Ruby (updated picture in comments): She is doing much better than she was last week. The good news is that she was heartworm negative and had no other worms. She is being treated for Demodex mange and a double ear infection. She goes back to the vet next Tuesday for a follow-up appointment. Once we get the all-clear, she will be spayed and available for adoption. We would appreciate any donations to help with her vet care. Her foster mom reports that she is a sweetie and shows no signs of aggression. She does well with kids and other dogs. If you would are interested in adopting Ruby please contact us. 🚨🚨🐶 SOS PUP IN NEED 🐶🚨🚨 This sweet baby was found in bad shape and the finder has tried to find the owners but no one has stepped up to claim the pup. Salvation Animal Rescue has agreed to cover the cost of vetting. As you can see from the video it has some skin issues. We are going to get it into Angelina Animal Hospital asap to get this treated and see what else may be going on. Please consider donating to help us cover the medical bills and other things needed to get this baby healthy and adopted to a safe, loving home. Salvation Animal Rescue

Salvation Animal Rescue was formed in September of 2016 by a group of ladies who were passionate about animal welfare. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to reduce the number of stray animals in our community. We also aim to reduce the number of animals put to sleep by providing low-cost spay/neuter vouchers monthly through our S.N.I.P.S. program which began in March of 2018. These vouchers are sold for $25.00 to anyone in Angelina County regardless of income. We also provide bi-yearly vaccinations and microchipping clinics for the community. We hope to educate the public about the need to foster and rehabilitate dogs rescued from shelters so that they have a chance to live a joyful life in a safe and loving home. It is through community support and donations that we can continue to accomplish our mission and grow this organization. We are proud to say that at the end of 2019 that we were able to expand our community outreach programs with the addition of our Doug’s Hugs Food Pantry. We have paired up with Meal’s on Wheels and other programs that service low-income Senior citizens or others that need assistance with helping to feed their beloved companions.
