Are you looking to add a new furry friend to your family? There are more black cats entering the shelters than any other color and they have the hardest time getting adopted. Why you might ask? This is largely due to common folklore and mythology that surrounds black cats as a sign of bad omen that dates back to the 16th century! These babies are just as loving and beautiful as any other cat in need of a home, pictured is Roku, a regular patient with us!

Happy St. Patrick’s day from these lucky kitties. 🍀

“One morning I was awakened by a family member who said there were kittens on the front porch. I sprung out of bed, headed outside, and there they were: two little big-eyed babies staring up at me. I crouched down and reached out my hand to see what their fear level was, and to my surprise, they ran right up to me without hesitation. I tried to find their mom but had no luck. I then took them inside and set them up in my bathroom until I could bring them into work.”

While normally we don’t love it when our cats jump up on the counter and knock all of our mail down, or knock our glass of water off of the night stand while we are trying to sleep, these common annoyances become something we grow to miss when our kitties become a little older, start moving slower, and seem a little achier.

But, guess what? Our friends at Zoetis have come up with an FDA-approved, monthly injection that can help control the pain associated with Osteoarthritis.

Ask your veterinarian about Solensia today!

Pet lovers everywhere observe National Love Your Pet Day on February 20th. This holiday focuses on giving lots of extra TLC to our pets. Spend this special day pampering your pets and celebrate the bond you have with your pet.

Did you know that most households in the United States have at least one pet? While there are more cats than dogs in the United States, more households have dogs than cats, but not by much. Pets are not limited to the canine and feline categories. There are quite a few who prefer the companionship of birds, reptiles, fish, or rats. Whoever your pet companion is, we are sure you will enjoy spending a little extra time with them on National Love Your Pet Day and reap the benefits, as well such as stress relief and lower blood pressure. So, on February 20th (and every day) show your appreciation to your pets!

February is American Heart Month, and just like people, it is important that every dog and cat owner is empowered to recognize signs of heart disease in their pets.

Regular veterinary checkups are a key component in keeping your pet’s heart healthy. The best thing that owners can do is to make sure their pets have thorough medical checkups — at least once a year — during which the veterinarian pays close attention to the heart. While examination with a stethoscope cannot detect all feline and canine heart diseases, it’s probably the most cost-effective approach to diagnosis in otherwise healthy animals.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bryan T. Clarke in becoming certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) specializing in canine and feline Practice.

Dr. Clarke mastered a rigorous and demanding application process and certification examination in order to obtain Diplomate status. To qualify to sit for the extensive, two-day examination, a veterinarian must complete either a residency program or six years of clinical veterinary practice. In addition, two case reports, references, descriptions of practice procedures, and professional education records must be submitted and pass review.

Dr. Clarke was born and raised in Tampa and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida in 2006. He continued his education at the University of Florida and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010, graduating in the top 8% of his class. He then entered private emergency and general practice in Jacksonville before moving back to Tampa and joining Tampa Bay Vets in 2012 at Pebble Creek Animal Hospital. In 2017, Dr. Clarke helped bring All Creatures Animal Hospital into the Tampa Bay Vets family.

The American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) was established in 1978. It is one of twenty-two veterinary specialty groups accredited by a special committee of the American Board of Veterinary Specialties, a division of the American Veterinary Medical Association, to recognize excellence in clinical practice through the certification of species-oriented specialists. Over 900 veterinarians worldwide are certified in one of ABVP’s eleven practice categories: Avian, Beef Cattle, Canine and Feline, Dairy, Equine, Exotic Companion Mammal, Feline, Food Animal, Reptile and Amphibian, Shelter Medicine and Swine Health Management. For more information about ABVP, please visit www.abvp.com.
