We came across this touching clip on Live with Kelly and Mark, where Dr. Jennifer beautifully captured the difficult decisions senior pet owners face when considering end-of-life care for their beloved companions. She did an incredible job discussing the importance of quality-of-life assessments and the thought processes involved in these deeply personal choices.

If you ever find yourself in this position, we offer a quality-of-life scale to guide you in evaluating your pet’s well-being based on your observations. This process is unique to each family and pet, as it depends on factors like your pet’s condition, personality, and your own values and beliefs.

At Lap of Love, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Whether you’re looking for resources or want to learn more about our services, we’re here to help. Click here to learn how we can assist you: https://hubs.li/Q0338Szn0

Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose words inspire us to focus on the impact we make and the love we give. For those of us who cherish the bond with our pets, this message holds a special meaning. Their time with us may be short, but it’s the care, compassion, and love we share that truly define their journey—and ours.

This month is a perfect reminder that regular exercise is essential for all dogs, including our beloved senior pups! Walking provides fantastic mental and physical stimulation, helping maintain your pet’s weight, mobility, and overall happiness.

Keeping your older furry friend active is key, but it’s just as important to adjust walks to meet their needs. Slow down, allow for breaks, and keep distances manageable to ensure they stay comfortable and safe.

How are you and your senior dog celebrating this month? What’s your favorite place to walk your pet? Let us know in the comments below!

"Our baby girl Zoey crossed the Rainbow Bridge on November 36, 2024, which also happened to be her 11th birthday. Two years ago, our doctors noticed something behind her left eye. It turned out to be a slow-growing tumor. Unfortunately, in order to remove it, they had to remove her left eye.

The surgery was successful; however, her neurologist mentioned there were residual remains in her optic nerve, which were difficult to access. Zoey completed 20 radiation treatments within 25 days. After her final radiation treatment, the scans came back clear.

She was able to continue living a happy, pain-free life. Zoey adjusted to having one eye with no issues—her energy returned, and her lizard-chasing skills were as sharp as ever!

But in July 2024, we noticed some discharge coming from her nose. CT scans in September revealed that the tumor in her skull had returned with a vengeance. Two months after the scans, she began to lose her motor skills and balance. It became difficult for her to eat and walk.

We had used Lap of Love services back in 2016 for our 16-year-old cocker spaniel and had a peaceful and pleasant experience. So, it was a no-brainer to call them again for our Zoey.

Our hearts were broken into pieces. She will be missed dearly, but we know she’s no longer in pain.

Thank you, Dr. Kara and Lap of Love, for making this experience as comforting as possible. Our baby girl was able to be at home, surrounded by love, with both her mamas by her side. Dr. Kara was so kind and patient throughout the process."

Our hearts are with Zoey’s family during this incredibly difficult time. Saying goodbye to a beloved companion is never easy, especially after a lifetime of unconditional love and cherished memories. It was truly our honor to help Zoey find peace, surrounded by the family who loved her most.

If you’d like to show your support for Zoey’s family, please leave a 💜 or share a kind message in the comments below.
