Feeling all bada$$ after giving my lawn tractor some much needed maintenance! New blades, tires aired up, new oil, plugs and filters. Purrs like a kitten! Now hopefully the rain will hold off for the next 3-4 hours while i mow the lawn!

Someone in another quail group asked how to keep the hawks away. This is how I have been keeping the hawks at bay….crows/ravins don’t fancy hawks in their territory, and I have a surplus of eggs everyday! “My” crows hang out in my yard waiting/calling for their free meal

Look at all those little pips! Gonna have me a bunch of itty bitty quails by morning.
This is a special order “mystery” hatch for a repeat customer (non breeder) who requested ALL the colors. So I packed the incubator with eggs from all the avairies, including all the colors and mixed in few celadon to surprise him when they start laying in 6-7 weeks🐣

I have a batch of 5wk old Coturnix still looking for new avaries (tuxedos not available) including at least 15 hens. This will be the last hatch available for the summer. PM if interested

Someday I’ll learn to keep my phone with me when I’m outside because I’m never in time to get the “cool” shots.
I was out walking the pups around the yard and we always check on the quails at the end of each loop (of the yard) when I heard a weird sounding chirp coming from the aviary that I’ve never heard before. I stood there for a minute to try and figure out which one was making this sound when I noticed there was a black racer (my favorite of all the snakes to see in my yard) creeping about 5’ up on the side of the aviary. Knowing there is absolutely no way the snake could sneak in since the entire aviary from top to below bottom is protected by 1/2” hardware cloth, I ran inside to grab the phone and of course it had given up and was already was down in the garden bed by the time i got back.

I guess the sound I heard was an “Alert Chirp”. The quails were back to sand bathing and weren’t at all stressed, even when Kobe decided to check in with them.
