June 24th is the most amazing day of the year because, it is known as CAT WORLD DOMINATION DAY!

Today is about the kitties and how they pretty much have taken over YOUR world. Make sure to partake in the celebration if you have any cats because today they are considered royalty. Just make sure not to feed too much treats (or tell them that they rule the world... it'll inflate their egos)

Have a fantastic day!

Hello Pet Point Animal Hospital Clients!
As you know, its summer time here in Florida and the heat is and WILL be brutal for the next few months. During this time we urge you to keep an extra close eye on your pets while you are out in this heat.
There are 3 major things that you should be watching out for (and the last one may surprise you!)
1st) Burnt Paw Pads
Burnt Paw pads are one of the most common injuries for pets to get during the summer. As the heat increases, we know that if you touch a car it would burn your hand - the same thing applies for the pavement. If you are walking your pet, their paws could be getting burnt no matter if its on concrete or asphalt. It's always best to walk your pets in the early morning or late evening to avoid the heat. Not sure if the floor is hot? Place your hand on the floor and if you cannot withstand the heat for AT LEAST ten seconds, then its too hot for your fur baby's paws. If you really want to walk them during the day invest in some pet booties!
2)Overheating
Just like with humans, our pets can also get overheated if they are outside for too long. Make sure to reduce the amount of time you are outside with your pet and try to keep them in a shaded area.
3)Water intoxication
After being outside for a while, pet owners become concerned that their pet is overheated so they try to give their pets to drink lots of water, because they believe this will help cool them down which is not the case. If you give your pet too much water, they could get Water Intoxication. Water intoxication is when a pet has too much water and it messes with the electrolyte balance in their body which could cause brain damage, heart failure and even death. So if you plan on giving your pets water after being out, just give them small doses of water until they are no longer thirsty or you can offer a sweet cold treat like doggy (or kitty) ice cream.

We hope this was informative and helps keep your pets safe during this season.

June is National Pet Preparedness Month !

During this month we like to ensure that pet owners are not only prepared for themselves if an emergency situation were to to occur but, for their pets as well. Especially with hurricane season approaching you'll want to make sure you have the necessary things that will help keep your pets safe. There are a few things you can do such as having your pets microchipped, vaccinated, and having a pet emergency kit (Its like a first aid kit).
Down below you'll find two links that will have tips on ways to prepare. If you have any questions please give us a call!

May is Annual Chip Your Pet Month!
While having your pet trained or in a secured location is great, There is still a chance that your precious fur baby may run away or get lost. A great way to keep your pet safe and to be reunited is by getting them microchipped. Microchips are small and are inserted underneath the skin - between their shoulder blades- that way it stays intact and with your pet at all times. Many other clinics will place the microchip and have you register it but, here at Pet Point, we will Microchip your pets and register it for you! Call us today to hear our prices and set up their next appointment.

April is National Heartworm Awareness Month!
So, what are heartworms?
Heartworms are a type of parasitic roundworm that can be found in Mosquitos and are passed by mosquito bites. While they are not harmful to humans, they can be harmful to animals. These roundworms are deadly if not treated right away. While there is treatment for dogs unfortunately, there is no treatment for cats. But, there is something that can help prevent and keep your pets safe from this terrible parasite - which is Heartworm prevention.
There are two different ways in which heartworm disease can be prevented. The first way is by giving a once-a-month chewable or a once-a-month topical solution to your pets. Heartgard , Nexgard Plus/Combo or Revolution are some of the brands that we recommend. The other, is by getting a once or twice-a-year injection.
If you want to keep your pet safe from these nasty creatures, give us a call to set up an appointment and we could discuss which medication would be right for your fur babies.
