So true!!

Imagine being dropped into a foreign country without a map, a guide, or even a clue about the local customs. It would give you giant anxiety and 'wtf am I supposed to do' feelings. At least for the vast majority of us.

That’s how your dog feels without structure. When you get a dog and just kinda go 'you can do whatever, wherever, whenever' dogs often also feel stress or uncertainty. They don’t just want leadership, they need it to thrive.

By providing consistent rules and calm guidance, you’re not being mean; you’re giving your dog the clarity they crave. Leadership, structure and boundaries doesn’t make your dog love you less.

It makes them love you more because they know you’ve got their back.

Dogs generally pull about 60 per cent harder on a leash when wearing a padded harness compared with a collar, even when the equipment is marketed as “anti pull” – putting the people walking them at risk of injury.

Some dogs – especially smaller breeds – pull with a force more than twice their body weight on the collar, potentially damaging their throats, says Erin Perry at Southern Illinois University.

“It’s really very shocking,” she says. “The dogs are almost choking themselves on that collar repeatedly. But the harnesses in our study just didn’t inhibit pulling in any way, and that’s definitely a wake-up call – especially because of the risk to owners.”

Don't miss it!!

Join us and Clawson’s K-9s with Class for a fun pack walk! All dogs are welcome, dogs must be leashed, this is a nice walk around the lake and on some of the trails in the park. Dress accordingly, be sure wear proper footware and bring some snacks too, we'll probably hangout and enjoy the beautiful picnic tables and grills the park offers.
There will be many trainers on hand to offer some dog training advice.
