With the first day of summer right around the corner, we've finally hit the season of long days, sunny skies, and outdoor adventures. It's the season of testing cement and asphalt temperatures for paw safety, monitoring thick coats for hotspots, and making sure everyone has flea and tick prevention on deck.
But right now, we have something even more important to talk about: 4th of July is almost here!
A lot of our furry friends find 4th of July to be a very stressful time. Fireworks are loud, bright, smokey, and they start and stop with very little warning. Many dogs and cats fall back on anxiety medication or sedatives to make the holiday more tolerable and less frightening. If your pet has a current prescription for such a medication, now is the time to make sure you have enough for the holiday!
The closer we get to the 4th of July, the busier veterinary clinics become. While we at VCA Alderwood do our best to get medication refills fulfilled same-day, we request 72hr notice and during busy times it can take us up to three days to get medication ready. If you call a day or two before the 4th of July for your pet's anxiety medication, we may not be able to get it to you in time! Plan accordingly, and make sure you are stocked up well in advance.
Everyone deserves to have a happy holiday-- some pets just need a little extra help!
