With the first day of summer right around the corner, we've finally hit the season of long days, sunny skies, and outdoor adventures. It's the season of testing cement and asphalt temperatures for paw safety, monitoring thick coats for hotspots, and making sure everyone has flea and tick prevention on deck.

But right now, we have something even more important to talk about: 4th of July is almost here!

A lot of our furry friends find 4th of July to be a very stressful time. Fireworks are loud, bright, smokey, and they start and stop with very little warning. Many dogs and cats fall back on anxiety medication or sedatives to make the holiday more tolerable and less frightening. If your pet has a current prescription for such a medication, now is the time to make sure you have enough for the holiday!

The closer we get to the 4th of July, the busier veterinary clinics become. While we at VCA Alderwood do our best to get medication refills fulfilled same-day, we request 72hr notice and during busy times it can take us up to three days to get medication ready. If you call a day or two before the 4th of July for your pet's anxiety medication, we may not be able to get it to you in time! Plan accordingly, and make sure you are stocked up well in advance.

Everyone deserves to have a happy holiday-- some pets just need a little extra help!

Happy Customer Service Representative Appreciation Week! This week we're doing something every day to show our appreciation for the first and last people you speak with at every visit: our reception team! As part of that appreciation, we'll be acknowledging a different member of our reception team every day of the week, Monday through Saturday.

Last but certainly not least is our newest addition to the Client Service Representative team: Lolo! She has been with our clinic for a little over a year, and with her experience in human medicine has adapted easily to our special brand of busy. Fluently bilingual in both English and Spanish, Lolo has been an invaluable addition to the team and allows us to better support our clients!

Lolo has two wonderful kitties, Starlight and Kevin, and when not at work she is a passionate foodie! It doesn't matter what cuisine, Lolo is excited to try it at least once! She's also been learning art, and is the one responsible for so many adorable pictures on our welcome board! Thank you, Lolo, for being your wonderful self and bringing so much passion to our team!

Raine is a Client Service Representation, and part of our reception team! They help with scheduling and prescription orders, and are always happy to answer any questions you may have. Even if they don’t have the answer, with six years of customer service experience Raine is good at finding someone who does!

They have been with VCA Alderwood Companion Animal Hospital since late 2023, and have two wonderful kitties: Julia and The Doc (legal name Dr Doofenschirmtz). Raine’s favorite part of the job is connecting with all the caring and compassionate pet owners who come to our clinic. When not at work, they are a creative and spend time drawing and writing. Raine also loves video games, books, and hiking with their partner—and, of course, napping with kitties!

Of course, no team is complete without their fearless leader! Ours is Amber, our Client Service Supervisor! She is always prepared to go above and beyond for those who walk through our doors, and with a history in human medicine as well as customer service Amber is excellent at problem-solving.

She has been with VCA Alderwood for three years, and has three adorable kitties (Eva, Loki, and Mando) and one lovely pup (Princess Leia). When not at work, she loves reading, journaling, and organizing shindigs. Previously never one to consider herself a dog person, Amber is now a full-blown frenchie mom!

Thank you so much for being an amazing human and keeping us all on track, Amber!

While she is primarily one of our amazing Veterinary Assistants, Hope also frequently floats in reception to support our team when an extra hand is called for! Having worked at several different VCA clinics over seven years, she is never one to shy away from a challenge! She is an incredible source of knowledge for our reception team, and always has the answer (or knows when to get it) when we have a question!

Hope has a wonderful kitty (Calliope) and big love bug of a pup (Alice). In her free time, she loves browsing gem stores and reading books. Thank you, Hope, for always being ready and willing to lend a helping hand!

If you’ve ever travelled abroad you’re likely familiar with Carrie, our Patient Care Coordinator! As an invaluable part of our reception team, she helps facilitate communication between clients and our doctors, and is an expert on International Health Certificates. Carrie touches nearly every single report, record, and question that passes through our clinic, and she guarantees all that information gets where it needs to be!

As a lover of animals, Carrie has been in the field for a long time and has had all manner of critters under her care. From cats to snakes, and even shrimp! Thank you, Carrie, for working so hard to make everyone's lives so much easier!

To kick things off, we wanted to acknowledge our longest standing member of the reception team: Gillian! She has been with us for 30 years, ever since Dr McGill started the practice. Previously she worked up front as a receptionist, and these days Gillian works in the back managing financials. She has three wonderful kitties, loves truffles and coffee, and has the best sense of humor!

Thank you for everything you do, Gillian!
