ADOPTING A SENIOR DOG ❤🐶
Five years ago a man made a decision to take you for a ride and dump you, in the middle of nowhere. No compassion, no love and without a care of where you could end up or what could happen to you. You were 8 years old then, part of another family, now torn away from everything that was familiar to you, lost and scared, waiting for the man to come back, but he didn’t.
Luckily you were found and brought to the shelter. My family was not expecting to get another dog, but when we saw the gentleness in your eyes and the way you interacted with our brand new granddaughter, it was apparent that you had a loving soul. We decided that we were going to be your furever home. The family that you could live the rest of your life with, and have no fear that you would ever be abandoned again. You fit right in immediately, laying down in the living room, just like you had been there the previous 8 years. You knew you were home.
Your happy personality, your want to always be around people, and the always wagging “nubby” tail was bound to put a smile on anyone’s face. You really just wanted to be everyone’s best friend. You knew the sounds of our cars when we pulled in the driveway, and that you got a big bowl of food every morning and night. There was never a time when you had to warm up to anyone. As soon as someone walked through our door, you were their friend for life.
When we walked into the vet’s office, you knew it was time. You were tired, and your eyes had lost their usual spark. The cancer, no matter what we tried, was just too much. We laid you down and told you everything would be OK. We told you we’d be OK, though I’m not sure we really believed it ourselves. You were the best gift that any family could have asked for. You made us better, Diesel, See you again buddy, we will love you forever.
Through no fault of their own, senior animals can wait far longer than others to find their furever home. Please, take a minute to visit the older animals in the Shelter. The ones that deserve to live out their golden years with a compassionate and caring family.
The HSWC is raising money for a new shelter through their Raise the Woof Capital Campaign. Your donations are desperately needed so that while waiting for their furever families, dogs like Diesel have a warm, comfortable and friendly place to stay.
