Just a reminder to stop by the clinic this Saturday before the Halloween Parade πŸŽƒ

2024 marks the 20th Anniversary of Lyons Veterinary Clinic.

To celebrate, we are having a Halloween Open House on Saturday, October 26th at 3 pm before the Halloween Parade begins at 6:00 pm.

At this time, we will be introducing our newest associate veterinarian, Dr. James Shea. He will be beginning full time in January and working several days a month until then. He is thrilled to be joining our community and can't wait to meet everyone.

Our open house will consist of a haunted house at the front of the clinic, while the back of the clinic will remain set up as normal so that you can see how we operate on a day-to-day basis. We will have activities, treats and FOOD!

If you stop by with your pet, don't forget to enter them into our Halloween Costume Contest for Pets! It is very important to their ego to be famous 🀩

If you are out and about on the 26th, please feel free to stop by, we would love to see you!

Tiger may hate us but seems to be coming to the understanding that if he cooperates, he gets to go home sooner, for that we thank him (we see him often, so this is a big win for us), and have chosen him as June's pet of the Month! 🐯

Here is the low down on Tiger from his mom:

"Tiger joined our family in 2019 after a long drive from Iowa. As soon as he arrived home, he laid smack down in the middle of the room, acting like he'd always been there. That comfortable confidence is a standout characteristic of our stripey boy. If you have a room full of people Tiger is sure to be in the center of it.

Unfortunately, Tiger has also experienced more than his fair share of health complications. Thankfully he has always had a great health team providing him with the loving care he needs to keep up on his favorite activities like chomping on grass, chasing feather wands, and getting plenty of scratches."

Confident he is, just look at that face, he radiates it!

Did you know that not all flea and tick preventatives are made the same?

The preventatives that are available over the counter are not as effective as the preventatives as the prescription strength ones available through your veterinarian.

Purchasing preventatives from online retailers (that do not require a prescription) can result in counterfeit products being sold that could either prove completely ineffective or worse make your pet sick.

If you aren't sure what preventative is best for your pet, ask. We are here to help!

We have seen a rise in tick-borne diseases over the past few years at the clinic, primarily Ehrlichiosis.

You may be thinking that your pet has never had a tick because you've never seen one on them. You could be right, but it's unlikely. Remember, ticks are extremely small when they have not fed. They typically go unnoticed.

With the rise of tick-borne diseases in our region it is important to educate yourself on the risks these nasty little hitch hikers pose.

If you are interested in any tick prevention, we got your pet covered. Apologies on not being able to cover you; put on your hat and pull up your socks.

It is Allergy Awareness Month!

Did you know that pets get allergies too. They don't express themselves quite in the same way as they do in people. Pets typically experience itchiness, hair loss, ear infections and/or skin infections.

There are three different types of allergens pets may be reactive to: environmental, insect bites and food.

There are a variety of home remedies you can try such as soothing bathes and immune boosting supplements but if these remedies aren't enough to kick the itch than medical intervention is likely needed to get your pet back on track.
