We are a guided trail ride business located near the Lake of the Ozarks. Our horses are all BLM Must We have a passion for the American Mustang.
(207)
Our hope is to provide a home and job for as many Mustangs as we can. In order to do this we need a job for them so they can help pay for their care. We have the Family Farm in Macks Creek MO. It grows rocks and trees not much grass. What better way to earn the money for their care then to offer trail rides to those on vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks. We are just minutes from Camdenton MO. We o
ffer half hour rides, hour rides, and pony rides. We also take wild mustangs, gentle them and find adopters for them. So when you come and ride one of our mustangs you are helping support not only the horse you are riding but other mustangs being gentled in preparation for their new homes.

I want to thank everyone who has visited us this year. I have enjoyed meeting so many people from different backgrounds and introducing a number of people to the joy of taking a ride on horseback.
Thank you all for a good season.

Some of the boys heard we are going to open March 2, 2024. So they decided they needed a spa day.

As we start thinking about our 2024 season (hopefully opening around the 15th of March) I want to share some of the losses we have had in the last 2 months.
First we lost Diamond Gem at the end of November due to health issues. We bred and raised him, he gave us 22 years of fun times. He was full of personality and you could always count on him leading the way into trouble. His favorite pastime was to open gates and feed bins faster than you could call his name. Due to his personality we didn't use him for a customer horse very often, so if you got to ride him, you are one of a few. He was mostly a guide horse and my mount more than anything else. I'll miss his quirky personality everyday.
Two months almost to the day we laid my wonderful companion, and greeter for Old Family Farm Trail Rides, Koda to rest. She was the best dog ever. If you came to our place she greeted you. I'll miss her greatly.

Thank You to everyone that came to visit in our 2023 season. We are closed now and will open for the 2024 season around mid March. If you would like gift cards for the 2024 season you can message here on FB or call our business at 573-693-7734 and leave a message I check for messages several times a week and will call you. Thank you and have a wonderful Holiday season.

Red Hawk, Red Hawk is a 12 year old Strawberry roan mustang. Born in the wild in the Washue Herd Management Area in NV. We got Hawk from his original adopter as a 4 year old. He had just started his training under saddle. Hawk has allergies and is on medication for them. His allergies make him itchy and he likes to stop on the trail at his favorite bushes to scratch his belly and butt. This can be entertaining or scary depending on how you view it. Hawk is slow, I mean takes his good ol' time slow, he is perfect for our younger riders.

After a tough morning of mowing and w**d eating you just need a treat. But you can't get the lid off.
07/25/2023
We have no bookings for today. So we are doing a little mowing and w**d eating. All the "boys" hard at work.
07/05/2023
Chief Red Horse, he got his name because he was a red horse and that is what we called him for weeks while we tried to think of a good name for him. We finally put the Chief in front of the red horse and that became his name. Chief is an 11 year old mustang that comes from the Diamond Hills HMA in NV. He was captured as a 2 year old and we adopted him shortly after that. We have had a lot of ups and downs with Chief. If his bridle isn't right or his teeth need care he can be reactive. However if he gets regular dental checks and no one messes with his bridle. He is the best steady Eddie we have. Anyone can ride him. He really likes going out and seems to miss it when he can't go.
06/20/2023
Nickel, Nickel because he wasn't worth a Dime. Nickel is a 14 year old born in the wild mustang we adopted from the Bureau of Land Management as a 4 year old. He comes from the Warm Springs Canyon herd management area in NV. Nickel likes to shake his head with his bridle on so it'll make noise. He will use his nose to rub on things as well. We have a guitar he would do that with till all the strings broke. He smiles at you too. Nickel changes color throughout the year, darker to lighter with dappling. Nickel usually gets the kids as he is a lighter built horse, he is good for about any skill level of rider. Nickel is a bit of a clown and fun to be around.
06/16/2023
Albert Einstein, Albert is 14 years old and our smallest horse we use him a lot for our pony rides. Albert really likes going down the trail but it's hard to find a rider his size. Albert is one of our mustangs, he was born in the wild in Oregon. We got him when he was two and found him a home that wanted a driving pony. He stayed there for a number of years and came back to us after one of his many attempts to die. I call him a 'cat with 9 lives' I think he is on number 6 now.
Jo, Gem, Timex, and Albert moved to the Old Family Farm with us in 2013 and have been a part of our trail rides from the beginning.
06/14/2023
Timex, Time is 19 years old and a full brother to Gem. Yes I know they all look alike. How boring. You definitely have to know them and their personalities to appreciate them. Timex gets his name from the Timex commercial ' Takes a licking and keeps on ticking'. He had one front leg turned back and without the help of our vet would not have made it alive into this world. He could have had nerve damage in the leg that was turned back. His mom, coming out of anesthesia, stood up and fell on him. Timex 'takes a licking and keeps on ticking'. I can put anyone on Time and he takes good care of them he is very dependable and steady.
06/11/2023
Diamond Gem, Gem is 21 years old this year. As you can see he looks a lot like Jo Jo. They are half brothers from the same stallion but different mares. Gem has a big scar on his hindquarters he got when he was 4, a gate latch caught him and tore him pretty bad. Gem is a prankster, he opens gates, carries off your tools, and other things of mischief. Gem is pretty much a "guide only" horse for our rides. He tends to be unpredictable, he can spot something he wants to go check out and wander off trail to do that, or spook from a rock he has been past 4 times today. Gem well he is just, Gem, one of a kind.
06/08/2023
Smokey Joe, or Jo Jo. He is 21 years old this year and we bred and raised him from an adopted mustang mare from NV. and an adopted mustang stallion from WY. Jo Jo has been with us since we first started doing trail rides. I can put just about anyone on him and he takes good care of them, as long as he is in the line he is great. However he is a totally different horse if he is out front leading, he doesn't get to lead very often. Jo is in charge of the herd and if left behind he will talk to them trying to make sure they are all ok. He has been known to get loose and come join us out on the trail.

I have always taken a dog on my trail rides. Nakoda has been with me for 10 years. She greets my customers and goes out on most of my rides. I have several reasons I do this. The first one is to get the horses used to something popping in and out of the woods and around their feet. Also the dog tends to roam out in front of us and if critters are close to the trail the dog will spook them up before we get there. The horses don't have as bad a reaction if that happens in front of them. So far this has worked out just fine. Koda is 10 this year and does not want to go out as often so she now has an assistant who is learning the job. Stinker is about a year old and really seems to be picking it up fast. I love how they work together and stay fairly close for the most part. Stinker is getting some better at greeting visitors, but is still very energetic about her greeting. If you are uncomfortable with dogs I do apologize to you but they are helping to make your ride just a little safer. So expect to be accompanied by at least one of them when you ride with us.

I am happy to announce that I will be open every day starting April 1st. We will still have some random days we will be limited on how many riders we are able to take and some that we will not be available for. I'm still short staffed and life tends to throw in unexpected challenges. We will do our best to cover any rides booked when things happen. In the meantime Koda has an apprentice she is a Border Collie mix about a year old. Her name is Stinker. Stinker is VERY enthusiastic about her new job. She will jump on you and may use teeth as Border Collies are a herding breed. She may also climb into your vehicle with you. I'm working with her on these issues but it is a work in progress. She does very well on the trails.

It's a little cooler in the woods.
It's going to be a hot this week but I still have some 10AM ride times available. For those looking to take advantage of earlier ride times we can do an 8AM ride by appointment only. Our trails are mostly shady very little time out in the sun.
On the trail.
Kicking off the Memorial weekend with a family of 6. Call 573-693-7734 to book your ride.
Spring coming from out of the side of the hill.
Sorry I couldn't get the video to load with the post so here is the spring that only runs after a big rain.
Morning routine.
Here is how our mornings start. I'm so proud of the boys they do this every day.
April 28, 2019 Two from MO.
These two really wanted to go for a ride. The first place they tried was not open for the season yet so they found us. It was a short ride but they still had fun. We are so happy you came to visit us and hope you made your flight.
We have a passion for wild Mustangs, “America’s Living Legend”. Almost all our horses were born in the wild, we have adopted and trained them ourselves and they show the clam, quiet nature that can be found in the wild herds. We started our trail ride business in order to give jobs to as many as we can, to help others learn more about the wild mustangs in America, and help find more homes for the many deserving mustangs just waiting to become some ones best friend. When you come take a ride on one of our mustangs you are helping us to feed and support not only our horses but mustangs that we may have in training so others can adopt a gentled mustang.
Arapaho is a palomino pinto born in 2011, captured from the Little Owyhee HMA (Herd Management Area) of NV in Dec of 2012. We adopted him out of the Hutchinson KS holding facility in August of 2013. He is 15hh so can take most riders and is one of our best kid or new nervous rider horses. Very little upsets him he stays calm and steady. He will take advantage of his rider and snack along the trail if he can, he is also what we call our “Short cut King” . Why follow the trail when I can save a few steps by taking a short cut. Arapaho knows how to bow, give kisses, and shake hands He loves to do these tricks for his riders.
Bandana is a sorrel and white pinto born in 2010, captured from the Little Owyhee HMA, NV. in Dec of 2012. We adopted him out of the Hutchinson KS holding facility in June of 2013. Bandana is about 14.1hhjust right for our lighter riders. He does take a rider with a little more skill, he can get a little excited if one of the other horses misbehaves, he has been known to try and head back to the house with out the rest of the horses. He tends to be a loner out in the pasture but if he decides he wants some thing he will get it, he can make the others back off. He can be a fun horse to ride for those with a little experience, but will also take good care of a novice.
Klondike Gold is a buckskin pinto born in 2009. He was captured in Jan of 2010 from the Granite Range HMA, NV. We adopted him out of the Hutchinson KS holding facility in Aug of 2013. Klondike is 15hh and is suitable for most rider sizes. He is as good as gold hence his name. I was riding him two weeks after we brought him home. He has power steering , awesome reverse, and is clam and mellow. If you are a good rider he will be a joy to ride. If you have never been on a horse before he will make you feel like you know what you are doing. However he is a snacker on the trail. If you let him he will eat the whole time he is out. He doesn’t get mad if you stop him nor is it very hard to stop him from grazing but you can count on him trying to get a bite.
Reno is a buckskin born in 2009. Captured in Jan. of 2010 from the Warm Springs Canyon HMA, NV. We adopted Reno from the Hutchinson KS holding facility in June of 2013. Reno is 14hh and is suitable for smaller or lighter riders, he does well with all skill levels of riders. Reno is all business he takes care of his job and does it well. He is not bad about trying to eat while out but has his days. Reno is just a good all round horse.
Nickel is a buckskin born in 2009. Captured in Jan of 2010 from the Warm Springs Canyon HMA, NV. We adopted Nickel from the Hutchinson KS holding facility in Aug of 2013. Nickel is 14.3h but has a light horse build this makes him a very good kids horse or small adult. He is great for those riders who might need to be on a lead line to start the ride with. He does a great job for those and most finish the ride on their own once they get use to the ride and trails. The biggest problem we have with him is he is not really fond of going down two of our big hills and sometimes will get off trail going down them. He is not hard to get back on the trail and most riders can be talked through getting him back on trail. Other than that he is a great trail horse for our smaller beginner riders. Nickel likes to lick your hand and knows how to smile.
Brumby is a dun born 2009. He was capture in Nov. of 2011 from the Fox Hog HMA, CA. We adopted Brumby in Aug of 2013 from the Hutchinson KS holding facility. Brumby is 14.3h and of light build this makes him great for our smaller riders. He also does a great job on the lead line for those riders who need just a little time to get comfortable riding a horse. We named Brumby after the movie “A Man From Snowy River” this movie was about the wild Australian horses know as brumbies, most of the horses in the movie looked a lot like Brumby. Brumby also knows how to bow for his riders. He is a really good kids horse, but will at times stop while going up or down hills then trot a little to catch up with the others. Most kids love this.
Albert is a brown born in 2009. He was captured in Aug of 2009 in the Murders Creek HMA, OR. Albert was adopted by some one in 2011 and returned to the BLM. I was sent to pick him up and find him another adopter which I did. In 2012 he was once again looking for a new home. At this point we knew it was going to be possible that we would be doing a guided trail ride business. Albert is 13h and just perfect for doing pony rides. So once again I came back into Alberts life. We bought him from his adopter and I don’t see him ever needing a new home. We called him Albert Einstein because he is so smart and learned everything so quickly. Albert does not go out on the trails all that often as we use him for our pony rides. When he does go out we have to watch him, he likes to get close to trees and has bumped a good few knees into our trees.
Navajo was born in 2014 he was captured in 10 0f 2014 in the Salt Wells Creek HMA of WY. We adopted him in 2016 from the Ewing IL holding facility. Navajo is a great horse for our guides to use as well as our customers he does very well for our young or nervous riders. He does like to mouth and chew on things. You need to watch your shoe laces, shoes, jeans, Well really any thing he can chew on. He is about 14.3h and can take our light to medium sized riders. He can be a little slow to start down the trail but once he is going he does a great job.
