Teddy and his brother are pretty wild and wooly at home. Our first step in changing the relationship revolves around making ourselves relevant at the other end of the leash.
We like to do this fairly, without fighting. When the dog realizes there is now clarity, they fall into step and enjoy being WITH you.
Teddy's owner did a phenomenal job during the session and was able to walk Teddy nicely on the leash for the first time in his life. ❤️

One day, I'll remember to take before videos.
Winston's mom called us because he would completely ignore her and didn't pay any attention, as well as pulling her wherever he wanted to go.
In just a single session, Winston became interested in his owner and enjoyed staying next to her with a few simple tweaks to her walking.
I often love using a long line for this purpose because it gives the dog space to choose to be WITH you, and also gives him enough time to make decisions and/or process what we're doing.
If you need help with your best friend, give us a call! We love helping our clients build amazing relationships with their dogs.

#BarWDogTraining doing a first session with Remi. I wish we had gotten a before video because Remi completely 180'd! His owners called us because they desperately needed help with their rambunctious 8month Labrador puppy, who pulled them down, jumped on everyone, and just plain didn't listen.
If you need help with your dog, call us!
Check out a raw snippet of our training session with private-session client, "Stich," nearly a year old Aussiedoodle and his kid!
When Stich first arrived, he was large and in charge, demanding, pushy, rude, and pulled like a freight train. After a little bit of training, a lot of determination on his owners' parts, he is walking phenomenally, even for his kiddo! Here, Stich is working around horse and cattle as distractions.
I absolutely love getting kids involved with training their pups, and do our best to give them age-appropriate responsibilities so that they can take part.
I'm leaving the audio intact so that you can listen to the fine-tuning we are doing, but they did a great job!!

#bwdtStich with his kiddo, working loose leash walking around horses and cattle as distraction. They did great!!
Benni tagged along with us during our Home Depot outting yesterday. Normally, I do not bring dogs out into public so early in a board and train, but I couldn't resist the invite from my friend!
Benni is very new to leashwork, but you can see her little cogs working to figure out what I am asking for. Notice, too, that she is pretty mouthy when receiving treats, so I gently tap her nose to ask her to think, lick, and take treats.
She did wonderfully, even around another client dog who she really wanted to play with.
Good job, Benni!

#bwdtWinston at Home Depot! Training alongside @iloveyourdogllc.
Bleu and Merle came in for a board & train right before we left in September. The last week we had them in, it rained hard and heavy so we were unable to do very many public outtings.
We brought the boys back for a week to brush up on their training and to practice outtings in public like Tractor Supply, Home Depot, Lowe's, and our local feed store.
Bleu struggled with insecurity, overwhelm, and reactivity (barking, lunging) to other dogs and humans. His brother, Merle, is just happy to see everyone and everything.
Here, their dad is walking them in our go-home session and doing wonderfully. Look how happy sweet little Bleu is! He is much more confident now, and happy to be out with his owners. Merle also made great progress, and is learning not to pull towards every person he meets.
Good job boys!

Being your dog trainer means continuing education to learn about the best tools and methods for YOU and YOUR DOG. I am constantly learning, reading training books, attending clincs/seminars, shadowing other trainers, etc... Training is a lifestyle and it is incredibly dynamic.
Clover and I are working through a 10-week course in the Koehler Method of Dog Training, taught by Tony Ancheta. It's been a really nice challenge and change of pace. My only regret is that I incidentally chose the hottest, driest time of year to start it. 😂
Clover KMODT Week 4 Readiness Test - June ISTA 42
Does your dog pull uncontrollably? Do you struggle to have an "easy" walk with your dog? Do they react and bark at everyone and every thing?
It doesn't have to be that way. We can help you!
Here, I've set up a high-level distraction for Clover. She absolutely loves other dogs, and especially wants to engage when they want to play.
Check out our website today and send us a contact form to get started! We have limited openings for August.

Here, I am shaping the very beginnings of a heel using leash pressure and treats.
Using the long line, we allow the dog to be responsible for his own slack in the line at a distance. As he learns to check in, follow on turns, and become more engaged, we can shorten the leash up until we get to a typical 6 foot lead.
Keeping sessions short and sweet ensures that you and your pup both remain happy and engaged.
