As you guys know, every year starting at the end of October or first of November I take off a week or ten days and bowhunt. This year is no different. I will be out of the shop from the 4th to the 11th or so. I won't be in AT ALL those days. I will be taking a limited number of deer, but If you have a deer you want me to mount, and you are capable of getting it caped and in a freezer, you can call me and leave a message or a text. I'll will call you back when I can, and we can get you in the book. I have zero space in my freezers but we can make an appointment for you to bring it in after fi****ms season. Thank you guys.

Lifesize mounts are a lot of work. This is day 2 of just getting the skin on and sewing. 2 of us worked 12 hours on it yesterday, and that doesn't count the time spent splitting, turning and fleshing the hide before sending it to the tannery, prep and repair work on the skin after tanning, form alterations or prep work on the form, paint and finish work, base and habitat work etc. That's just mounting time.

Check the size of this thing lol.

I have to say, mounting these 2 locked together deer has not been all that much fun, they're tight, and there ain't much room to get that skin in there lol. But one of them is mounted, the second one will be even trickier lol

The other night at our 40 year class reunion I was telling some of my old classmates about the time I was in Africa and I pulled a Python out of a bush by his tail, but I couldn't find the picture. I don't think they believed me lol, but I finally found the picture, so here's the proof. I might not be very smart, but I'm not a liar🤣🤣🤣🤣

In a little over a week I'll be headed to Australia to hunt Buffalo and Banteng. My wife will be running the shop while I'm gone. It's become a tradition for me to take a knife Ive made with the tools I have, and trade it for something an Aboriginal has made with the tools he has. The knife is finished, the sheath still needs to be dyed and oiled.

People ask me all the time what is my favorite animal to work on. Well...im not sure but it's not Warthogs🤣🤣🤣 Mounting Warthogs is just like mounting fish in the way that they loose ALL their color and have to be completely painted in order to look like anything at all. Their tusks always dry and crack, so I always make molds of the originals and cast replica tusks to go in the mount. In the photos the Warthog is freshly mounted, you can see what a mess they are before being painted, I'll post more photos when he's dry, painted and finished. The replica tusks are the white ones, fresh out of the mold and ready to be painted. There is also a photo of the replica tusks after being painted. Color wise they're not a PERFECT match, but they're close enough that once in the mount I guarantee no one will know they're not the originals.

These goats take some patience. They have so much hair and its easily blood stained and very difficult to get clean, its also difficult to get paste in them without getting it all over the hair, hard to see where your sewing because of the hair and hard to position the skin where it belongs because of the thickness of the hair. The only good thing is it hides a seam well lol. Just getting him mounted (even though the form was already prepped and the skin had already been test fit a couple of times) was an all day project yesterday even with the help of my wife. I had him mounted and on his rock base at about 5:30 pm but as soon as I started to dry him I could see he was not clean enough so.......I sent Tina to the store for some shampoo and a garden hose, we took him to the back, over the floor drain, and washed him like a dog. Do you have any idea how long it takes to completely blow dry a life-size Mtn Goat after washing it like a dog? Well....I don't either, but 4 hours won't do it🤣🤣🤣 We left the shop at 9:30 pm last night and he still wasn't COMPLETELY dry. He still needs finish work and the rocks still need to be painted but he's mounted and drying.
