Nearly six decades ago, voters passed the first countywide millage dedicated to support . The wisdom of that choice can be found in the incredible parks, programs and recreational facilities that we enjoy today and the countless memories that have been created within them over the years.

In this election, voters cast their ballots in favor of a wonderful new chapter of investments that will preserve that legacy and build upon it with great parks, trails, natural areas and things to do throughout the year located within reach of all residents. We are grateful for the confidence they have placed in us and will be working very hard to ensure their tax dollars are wisely spent and have a lasting impact that will benefit future generations.

Election Day is TOMORROW! ✅When you head to the polls, we ask that you please consider the information below about the millage request as you make your final decision.

Our proposal seeks voter approval to replace the current property tax of 0.35 mills that supports Oakland County Parks with a tax levy of 0.65 mills authorized for a 20-year period ending in 2043, generating an additional $24 million annually for a total budget of $52 million.

Funding will go toward:
• Major capital improvement projects, preventing facilities from becoming aged, outdated, underutilized and costly to operate.
• Park revitalization and development partnerships with local communities to expand recreational opportunities closer to population centers and ensure all residents benefit from our services.
• Maintenance and improvement of regional trailways and the development of water trails on major rivers.
• Increased preservation and protection of threatened high quality natural areas and natural resource stewardship needs like invasive species management, wetlands restoration, tree planting and native plant distributions and nature-based educational programs for students.

Park entry fees will also be eliminated for all OCP parks if the proposal is approved (excluding pay-per-play attractions like waterparks, golf, camping, off-roading, etc.)

The average value home in Oakland County has a sales value of $270,000 and a taxable value of $135,000. This homeowner is currently paying $48 a year to support Oakland County Parks. They would pay an additional $40 a year if the proposal is approved, with a total final cost of $88 a year.

The platform tennis courts at Waterford Oaks County Park have become more popular than ever now that they've been painted to also be used for pickleball! 🎾🏓

Projects like this American Rescue Plan Act funded improvement are one way that can enhance facilities around the parks system. If the Oakland County Parks ballot proposal is approved Nov. 5, improvements could be made in 15 Oakland County Parks and communities around Oakland County.

Have you been to Eugene S. Nowicki Park? It's just off of Adams Road in City of Rochester Hills- Government has so much potential. Mayor Bryan Barnett recently went out to explore the undeveloped space.

That's why would love to partner with the city to bring this green space to life. Park revitalization and development partnerships with local communities can expand recreational opportunities closer to population centers and ensure residents of all regions benefit from our services.

This is one of the projects OCP would be able to take on if the millage proposal is passed this Election Day. To read more about the proposal, click here: https://bit.ly/2024_Millage.
