The eggs have rings in them, but given the fact she didn’t bury them and it’s getting towards the end of the season, I’d be surprised if these ones hatched. They’re going in the incubator regardless, and maybe I’ll get lucky in three months and have some hungry mouths to feed!!

Kalari looked so sad at the end there, made me feel bad lol.
I’m very happy I can move that stump, since I usually get at least one gecko per shoot that decides to jump down there.

Omg I’ve been waiting for the day when one of my animals lays a Partho egg! This is so so cool!!
For anyone who doesn’t know what parthenogenesis is, it is essentially a Virgin birth. There was no male involved in the creation of the embryo. Parthenogenesis is quite common in a bunch of different reptile species. There’s two different ways that this can happen. Either two oocytes (eggs) fused, creating one diploid egg, or an egg underwent an extra set of chromosome replication.
In the first case, the egg receives two sets of mom’s dna.
This would mean it’s essentially a Lilly + Lilly and the outcome probability would be 25% super (lethal) 50% Lilly 25% normal. Crusade is also 50% het for axanthic, so say she’s actually a het, there’s a 25% chance that I could get a visual axanthic (or ax LW) out of this egg. (I would probably die lol)
The other way, the egg’s chromosomes are replicated. Eggs start out haploid, so Crusades eggs are predetermined to be either normal or Lilly. If it’s a normal egg that got duplicated, there should be a normal baby popping out. If it was a Lilly egg that got duplicated, it would be a super popping out, which is unfortunately lethal. Same goes if she’s het for axanthic. Normal egg = normal baby. Axanthic egg = visual axanthic baby.
I can write these out if anyone is confused. I study genetics for a reason, this stuff is just so cool to me!!
The odds are stacked against this egg hatching since it’s both partho, and essentially Lilly+ Lilly, but I’m hoping for a live baby, that would just be so so cool to have a Crusade clone running around!!

~Havarti~ and ~Indium~
Havarti is a classic Clearance X Breeze tangerine baby. All of the white pattern it has is going to turn bright orange as it grows! Indium is a 50% het axanthic from Pharaoh X Hemlock. I know the highlighter gene is coming from Hemlock, but I’m not sure where the tangerine is coming from. If indium is in fact a Tangerine, then I’m about a year ahead on my tangerine project plans!!

Somehow I missed an Ocarina clutch!
I thought she was done laying after 5 clutches this season since last season she had 4 clutches. She also didn’t appear gravid last month and I didn’t see her digging, so I was pretty sure she was done. The last few days I saw her digging, and could see that she was gravid, so I knew there was another clutch and that I had probably missed one. Luckily for me, she made it easy, and both clutches were in the same spot! I’m super impressed that the older eggs were fertile and growing, since the substrate tends to dry them out. Looks like I’ve got 4 more ocarina babies on the way!!

Styx is the 3rd baby to hatch from Pharaoh X Mars, and they’re really special because they’re 50% het axanthic, and a visual phantom! Styx being a visual phantom proved out Pharaoh to be het phantom, so I’m super excited about that!!
