Dental care is vital to the overall health of all animals. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats over the age of three years old suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population.

Many pet owners are not aware of the importance of dental care to their pet’s health. There are a lot of different ways to improve your pet’s dental hygiene, including home brushing, dental chews, as well as regular inspection.

The most effective way to protect your pet from dental disease is through professional COHATs or Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment. We perform thorough COHATs, including treating the area beneath the gums that you can’t see or access at home.

If your pet has discolored teeth, bad breath, or is having difficulty eating, or dropping food, these could all be signs of dental disease. Call us today to learn more and schedule your pet’s COHAT.

Kitten season! 😻

Todays topic: The importance of spaying and neutering your cat.

Generally, spayed and neutered pets live healthier, longer, and happier lives. While we love our cats, there is an over abundance. As of 2021, the number of owned cats in the world is estimated to be 220 million, while the number of stray cats is estimated to be 480 million. It is estimated that there are roughly 700 million cats on the planet in total. Overpopulation is the number one cause of death of healthy pet cats in the USA.

We encourage you to spay and neuter your pet.

What to be aware of with rising temperatures ☀️🔥

As the weather changes and the temperature rises, new dangers become a more pressing concern for pets. One of the main summer threats for pets is heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

In an email correspondence with Ricky Walther, DVM, veterinary advisor at Pawlicy Advisor, he said, “Just a four-degree internal temperature change could kill your pet within minutes. Before taking your pet out for a walk, it’s important to consider both the humidity and temperature as they will both play a part in heat exhaustion for pets. Another thing to keep in mind on hot summer days is the temperature of asphalt. A good rule of thumb is to test the ground on the back of your hand. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Burns on paw pads are a very common danger that increases in the late spring and summer months.”

Check out this before and after laser therapy case! This cat came into the clinic with a severe injury to the hind leg that had been there for an extended period of time. It was severely infected and he was unable to use his hind limb at all.

What is laser therapy and how does it work? Laser is visible and infrared light that stimulates the body to do what it normally does, only faster and more efficiently. When a dose of light energy reaches target tissue it decreases inflammation and pain, and accelerates healing. What does laser mean? The term laser is an acronym meaning Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

Laser therapy can be used on more than wounds. We can use laser therapy after surgery, skin infections, dental extractions, torn ligaments, arthritis, and many other ailments.

After just ONE WEEK of laser therapy this pets severe wound is nearly healed. He can finally walk again!
