🎓 Meet the Graduates 🎓 5 of our dogs just completed their 5-week Basic Manners class, and they are eager to show you what they’ve learned.

🐕 Doggy Playgroups 🐕 We’ll be hosting playgroups at our front yards and in our kennel play yard (this one has a pool).

“We work at an animal shelter; of course, we want to take every animal home with us.” 🤣

😍 Working at an animal shelter means falling in love with countless furry friends. 😍

While every animal deserves a forever home, there are some that just steal our hearts in a special way.

Our big FEE WAIVED Adoption Event is next Saturday, August 24th from 12-6pm.

We thought it would be helpful to share some suggestions on which animals we think you should make plans to meet.

So we asked our Adoption staff who they would take home in a heartbeat and why. Here's who they picked:

Every year, Local’s and Telemundo-owned stations partner with animal shelters and rescues in their communities to promote pet adoption and raise needed funds for shelters and rescues.

the Shelters is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a month-long campaign from August 10th to September 10th.

👉 Here's how you can help:

1️⃣ Share our posts. This expands our reach and exposes our animals to more people, increasing the chances of them finding an adopter. This one action has the potential to create the greatest impact on an animal's future.

2️⃣ If you are considering pet ownership, please visit a few of your local shelters first to see if they may have an animal that fits your needs and lifestyle. Adopting from a shelter allows the shelter to take in more homeless animals, thus saving more lives.

3️⃣ Donate or start a fundraiser. These funds go towards animal care (like food, vaccinations, medicines, etc).

✨ On August 1st, three animal shelters joined forces to tackle the issue of overcrowding and saved 20 animals. ✨

Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro has been a St. Hubert’s local NJ partners for many years. Just a couple of weeks ago, they asked if we could help them pull some cats and kittens.

At the same time, our partner Rutland County Humane Society in Vermont, also reached out because they were interested in *pulling* animals from us. They had room for 15 cats and 5 dogs. 😮

That's when our brilliant WayStation team orchestrated a groundbreaking transportation solution that was a win for all involved.

In a heartwarming display of collaboration and compassion, our WayStation team picked up the 15 cats and kittens from Bergen County Animal Shelter and brought them back to St. Hubert’s. They had time to eat and nap before heading up to Vermont with 5 dogs the following morning.

Together, these shelters demonstrated the power of community and teamwork in saving lives. Thank you to for helping us give these 20 animals a second chance.

Shout out to our marvelous Waystation team: our very own Debbie Ocean (Ocean’s Eight) Lynn, our cat connoisseur Ronnie (pictured), and our favorite WayStation driver Andrew. Thank you for all your hard work in pulling off this heist 😎!

Hey Branchburg! What are you doing on Sunday?

We’re collaborating with Barkley's Marketplace - Branchburg NJ again for another adoption event crossover on Sunday, August 11th from 1:30-4:30pm.

Our adorable, adoptable pets will be hanging out at the store. If you fall in love with and adopt one, Barkley’s team will be ready to help you find all the necessary supplies to make them feel at home.

This will be our third Branchburg crossover event where you can meet adoptable pets at BOTH Barkley’s in Branchburg AND across the road at our St. Hubert’s Doggy Day Camp North Branch location. The tentative guests are pictured. We’d love to see you there!

We’ll also be kicking off our initiative where all month-long, shelters nationwide promote pet adoptions and fundraise for their local shelters.

All week-long, our talented pawlympians will compete for your votes AND your hearts 💕

😺 Sometimes, your pet really does choose you.

That certainly was the case for Haley and Layne who had quite the meet cute last summer.

Haley was cleaning the kitty kennels when Layne (formerly Macaroon) surprised her by jumping on her back.

It was love at first leap! “I knew he was my cat from then.” Haley declared.

A year later, Layne is now a year old and growing every day. Haley shares, “[Layne] is so sweet and very cuddly!”. The two are preparing to move into a new home and are very excited.

🥳 Hooray for Goose and Templeton, two kittens, who were adopted TOGETHER this past week!

From the moment they landed in New Jersey on a flight, to their time in foster care - these two kittens were inseparable. The plan was to adopt just one kitten, but when they saw how Goose and Templeton loved each other, these adopters decided to adopt both! 😹

💕 Thank you to Goose and Templeton’s new family for making room in their hearts and home for two. A big shoutout to our wonderful adoption counselor Eve who helped this family grow by 8 paws! 🐾🐾

But that's not all we have to celebrate this week!

🎉Not only did 50 animals get adopted this past week, but 3 were our long-stay fosters! Mr. Lavender and Chaka (our longest-stay foster) were adopted together by their kindhearted foster, and Butterscotch made things official with her foster family as well! 🎉

What an amazing way to start the month as we prepare for our adoption celebration coming up on August 24th!!

🤩 Meet Enzo, our Karate Kid star 🤩

Enzo moved from Washing D.C. to New Jersey hopeful for a better life. It’s been over 160 days and Enzo is wondering when his family will finally come for him.

Despite his occasional self-doubt, which can sometimes show in an unflattering light, Enzo is truly a sweet and affectionate dog.

Just like Daniel LaRusso, the lead character in The Karate Kid, Enzo is on a journey of transformation, determined to become a better version of himself.

He’s working with his sensei Julia in Basic Training: Part One class where he’s been practicing patience and mastering basic commands like “sit” and “stay”.

🤩 This is one dog you don’t want to leave behind. Meet Yoshi, our E.T. star 🤩

If Elliot could pick a dog, he’d pick Yoshi because he can relate to how he feels: isolated and misunderstood.

Every year, NBC and Telemundo stations nationwide partner with animal shelters and rescues in their local communities to promote pet adoptions and to fundraise.

This offers much-needed relief to those shelters and gives the animals better opportunities for adoption. ✨ Watch these shelter dogs shine in training class ✨Last week, a group of 8 dogs started their first Basic Training Part One class hosted by our rockstar Behavior Team 🤘For 5 weeks, our kennel and adoption staff will practice basic commands like “sit”, “down”, “wait”, “stay”, “leave it”, and “come when called” with their shelter dogs. 🙏 We are so fortunate to have such an esteemed behavior and training center that we can utilize as an additional resource to provide extra support to the dogs that may need it.❤️ And we are so grateful to our staff for always going the extra mile to help our animals get adopted ❤️As always, go to our website www.sthuberts.org/adoptable-dogs to learn more about our adoptable dogs. Yesterday we welcomed over 90 pets to #newjersey! ✈️ They arrived on a @greatergoodcharities flight sponsored by @hartzpets who came out to @morristownairport to help us unload the animals.🙏We also want to thank our St. Hubert’s volunteers who regularly come out to help us for every flight.❤️While some animals went to local partners, we ended up keeping 34 dogs/puppies and 33 cats/kittens!🙀We can’t wait to introduce you to our new friends on social in the coming weeks. They are all ready to meet you in person during adoption hours 1:30-6:00pm (Thursday 3-6pm). 🎉 Congratulations to Paula for graduating Basic Training Part One 🥳 Over the past 6 weeks, she honed in on her basic commands like “sit”, “down”, “come when called” and “leave it”. During her last class today, Paula excelled at “stay” and loose leash waking in the presence of the toughest of distractions (also known as other dogs). Keep in mind:‼️Avoid giving your animals iced water if they are already overheated as it could shock their system ‼️Keep metal bowls out of direct sunlight as they can quickly become too hot

However, if you want to tire out your dog, sniffing is exactly what you need to let them do. Our #dogoftheweek Herb explains why it’s important to let your dog sniff. Our Story

Founded in 1939, St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center operates animal shelters in Madison, North Branch and the Noah's Ark Campus in Ledgewood NJ. We welcome animals directly from guardians, animals rescued by our animal control officers, from overcrowded shelters across New Jersey, from disaster situations, and from distance partners. Our nationally renowned Training and Behavior Center, located at our Madison campus, offers specialized training classes and behavior consultations. Additionally, St. Hubert’s provides a variety of community services including pet adoption, humane education, a pet food pantry, low-cost spay/neuter of community cats and a professional education series. We regularly advocate for animal welfare legislation and work to engage our community to help us protect animals in N.J. and beyond. In addition to our role as a nonprofit organization, St. Hubert’s provides animal control services to a number of municipalities in Somerset and Morris counties. Officers assist domestic animals and wildlife in need, and provide educational information to reduce human-wildlife conflicts. St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit organization—Federal Tax ID 22-1627726. Our animal welfare and community service programs are supported by contributions, grants and bequests for program continuation and expansion.
