Enjoy this wonderful story of how our clinic helped this sweet girl lead a new happy and healthy life! We cherish these stories. We are grateful that God is using our team to do his work everyday! 🐾

“On a cold January morning, Animal Services found Lacey near their gate—sweet, but very thin. I agreed to foster her while they searched for her family, and quickly fell in love with her. But from the moment I brought her home, she struggled to keep food down. At first, I thought it was due to how underweight she was, but after the vomiting continued, I took her to Madison Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Baxley and the team ran extensive tests—x-rays, bloodwork, and a barium series—but nothing explained the issue. Per their advice, I began puréeing her food, which helped a little, but she still continued to vomit. Finally, we decided to do an exploratory surgery. That’s when Dr. Baxley discovered something unexpected: parts of her stomach, intestines, gallbladder, and pancreas were fused together by scar tissue, likely from an old injury. It was a long and complex surgery, but Dr. Baxley did everything he could to repair the damage.

Thanks to his incredible work and the care of the entire Madison Veterinary Clinic team, Lacey has made a remarkable recovery. She’s gone from 52 pounds to 75 pounds and is now thriving, living her best life! A huge thank you to Dr. Baxley, Macie, and the entire team for giving Lacey a second chance at life!” 🐾💕

Special thanks on this one to Amanda, Dr.B, and Macie!

JOHN C. LEWIS, DVM
VETERINARIAN

Dr. John Lewis grew up in nearby Jefferson County. After graduating from Jefferson County High School, he completed his A.A. degree at NFJC and transferred to The University of Florida where he obtained his Animal Science degree. Since Florida did not have a vet school at that time, he then attended Auburn University and received his DVM degree in 1979. After a brief stint in North Georgia, Dr. Lewis came to Madison County and started working with Dr. J.A. Davis, whose practice he purchased in 1983. Dr. Lewis and his wife Mary Alice reside in Madison and have 3 grown sons- all living elsewhere- a wonderful daughter-in-law and one grandson. Dr. Lewis is particularly proud of his extremely talented veterinary team members and enjoys coming to work every day.

We would like to introduce you to Madison, a 4-month-old pup who unfortunately contracted tetanus. When she first arrived, she was slightly stiff but could still move, but her condition soon took a turn for the worse. After a day or so, she was completely stiff and could only move her tongue to give kisses and tiny tail wags. With daily muscle relaxer injections, antibiotics, and patience, she gradually began to move more. After about a week, she was able to kick her back legs and eat hard food. Initially, she couldn't eat due to the tetanus, but with hydrotherapy to strengthen her joints, physical therapy to stretch them, and massage therapy to loosen them, she can now push up and walk with her rear legs as well as stand on all fours. She can also eat dry food without issues! Throughout her journey, Madison remained happy and gave us kisses every day. She has overcome the odds with the help of our dedicated staff, especially- Lindsey Daniel, who went the extra mile by driving an hour to work on Sunday mornings to continue Madison's care through the weekend for the last few weekends. We are proud to have such kind-hearted people on our team! Lindsey Daniel
