These items do not have to be horse related! Gift certificates to local businesses, handmade items, gift baskets, etc. Last year we held a silent auction with very little advance preparation and made around $300! So we thought we would try it again!

What a great day! We had at least 30 riders hit the trails at Heritage Park today. Beautiful weather, pretty horses, nice people. Afterward we all enjoyed a good lunch. Thank you all for coming out, volunteering to lead rides, help with lunch, and all the other details! It was a huge success!

What a beautiful day and a great horse show! Thank you to all the volunteers and exhibitors who came out and worked or showed today! The last Kel-Mac Horse Show of the year is October 7th

Volunteers are needed and appreciated for this final show. Help is needed for the show set up on Friday, Oct 6. We will meet for lunch at Dos Amigos at noon, then go on to the arena. We also need volunteers for the day of the show. Please spare us some time to make sure this show is fun for all.

Kel-Mac and Athens Area Horse Community are hosting Dr Rebecca Gimenez Husted on Oct 1. Dr Husted is internationally known as an expert on large animal rescue and safety. She will be speaking to us about barn fires, their prevention, and safety measures we can all take. Add to this seminar, AAHC will host a tack sale and donation area (tack,blankets,horse supplies). Theire will be a food truck until 7pm.. This event is free to all KelMac and AAHC members. $35 dollars for all others. The barn fire seminar starts at 2 pm,other events will follow. Please go to the AAHC page to register- this seminar is worth your time and money! Dr Husted is a dynamic and entertaining speaker. This Saturday is a workday at Hard Labor Creek. If you wish to volunteer to "clip and ride", registration begins at 8:30 am , riding begins at 9. Volunteers will get a T-shirt and water and snacks will be provided. Park and trail passes for riders are waived. Volunteers are encouraged to log their hours from the time they leave home until they return home, and turn them in so the Friends of HLC group will receive credit. Bring your own shears or clippers! Upcoming September Kel-Mac Meeting -
Herm Sherwin, of Herm Sherman Performance Horses, will be hosting the September 19th Kel-Mac Meeting at 7 PM. The Farm Address is 2421 Greensboro Hwy, Watkinsville, 30677. Herm, and his wife, Tianee, will be demonstrating the art and sport of Reining.

Herm began his career in the equine industry 35 years ago. His early days were spent training and showing Appaloosas in Western Pleasure and Reining, and he won World Titles in both disciplines. Twenty years into his career, Herm transitioned over solely to Reining, and has been quite success personally, and through his coaching. In fact, one of his students earned a World Title. Herm also assisted the UGA Equestrian Team Coaching Program, and played an integral role in their National Championship in 2013.

Tianee stepped into the Reining show ring for the first time 2.5 years ago as an Amateur. A year ago, she went Professional, and was ranked 6th in the World in the Rookie Professional Category earlier this year.

Lincoln Schmidt is the newest addition to the Herm Sherwin Performance Horse Team. He will play an integral role in their c**t starting program.

Herm and Tianee welcome all levels of riders for lessons, and encourage anyone interested in learning about reining to come for a visit. KelMac members- Redux Rescue had a fire this weekend! Their cabin was destoyed, along with feed,tack, and medical supplies. No animals were harmed. BarG is working with Paulette to get a list of needed supplies together. You can donate money or supplies through BarG. Please help this very deserving rescue! And don't forget we are hosting a Barn Fire/Safety seminar on Oct 1 at White Dog farm. This is the 4th fire affecting horse owners in NE Georgia this summer!

Our first fall show is Saturday, September 9th. We will meet for lunch on Friday, September 8th at noon, at Dos Amigo’s in Madison. After lunch, we will go to the Ag Center to set up for the show. Please join us: the more volunteers we have, the faster it goes!
We also need volunteers to help at the show. If you are willing to hand out ribbons, keep track of competitors at the gate, keep a clipboard with stall assignments, run show sheets from the office to the announcer and to the gate, announce for part of the day, or man the entrance gate to the arena, we could really use your help! None of the jobs are difficult, and you aren’t expected to stay all day. Please remember that Kel-Mac is a volunteer-run organization, and the money we raise is donated to equine-related activities each year.

The layout of the paddocks encourages natural movement and herd behavior. Learn more about Wild Meadows Farm at their website www.wildmeadowsequestrian.com. A Mounted Archery demonstration will follow this presentation. Members will have an opportunity to try archery themselves!
Please note- the meeting will start at 7 pm. Bring a chair!

More specific directions for tonight's meeting at Inyazura Farm: Use the entrance that has the number 7154.you will see a green house on the left.GPS may not be exact. The gate code is 1234. Please drive up to yhe green house and bring your chairs. We will have a farm tour on Gators, then a presentation about Inyazura and fox hunring. The farm will provide sandwiches and snacks..Hpoe to see you there!

Meg Eades gave a demonstration of how she performs specific equine body work to encourage balance and relaxation. Meg is a certified practitioner of the Lazaris Nerve Release Technique. She has an extensive backround with performance horses, and also teaches positive reinforcement training methods.
