LET THEM SNIFF!
Spring has finally arrived and with it there is so much fascinating news to be had for your dog while out for a walk.
It’s the sniffing part of a dog’s walk that mentally benefits them the most. A walk with your dog doesn’t need to be an obedience heeling competition!
Don’t forget though…Nosework can be done both indoors and out. Be creative! Use things you have around the house to create nose puzzles for your dog.
You will be amazed at how much “nuisance behaviors” can be reduced or even eliminated by simply letting your dog engage in this natural behavior.

Why training “obedience cues” is not the same as teaching your dog good manners regardless of location, situation or who they are interacting with!
The adolescent Goldendoodle MS video has wonderful cue response to the behaviors most dogs learn in training classes or private sessions (sit, down, come etc) but that is not the same as a dog who understands that sitting is the appropriate response around any human they may interact with.
This video covers how we teach him that jumping is not the response we want from him without ever needing to use force, fear or “bribery”?

Wonderful product alert! (Not a paid ad just to be clear).
We have used @wildmeadowfarms (WILD MEADOW FARMS) dog treats in training for a number of years now and we love the quality and how much the dogs love them.
Recently they came out with a product called “Magic Dust” that comes in all the flavors of their treats and can easily be sprinkled on another food item to make it more palatable.
We wanted to put this to the ultimate test and use it with Chester who you see in this video. Chester is 14 or 15 years old and is in hospice care with us at the moment.
It’s been more and more difficult to get him to eat. The only thing he does seem to reliably want is the Wild Meadow Farms Dog Treats so we decided to get some magic dust and try that.
It’s really incredible. You can see here that adding the beef magic dust to a beef hamburger is what gets him to eat!
If you have a picky eater or a dog that needs to eat a prescription diet for a period of time or a dog that’s having a hard time coming back to eating after an illness, I think this product would be really great for you to try.
Those of you who know me know that I almost never Recommend a specific brand or a specific product. This one is unique enough and quality enough that we really wanted to do this so you all would know it exists!
