A Message from Bob Wendler
Help us fund our new roof!
Unfortunately, we couldn’t wait another day for a new roof at our training facility. If you are able to help us pay for this expense, please consider donating and sharing! The new roof is costing our nonprofit $65,000.

Keta Demonstrates Behavior Interruption Task for Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month! This month is extremely important to us as an organization.
Custom Canines specializes in raising, training, and placing service dogs for military veterans and first responders with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other disabilities.
Because every individual’s needs are different, all of our dogs assist their handlers in different ways. Here are some of the tasks that our service dogs are commonly trained to perform to assist our recipients with their PTSD:
-Behavior Alert and Interruption
-Positionwork (using the position of your dog to extend your personal space)
-Nightmare Interruption
-Medication Retrieval
-Deep Pressure Therapy
-and more!
Service Puppy Keta is here to demonstrate how she’s learning to alert her future handler to anxious behaviors. Keta is using a nudge alert to tell her puppy raiser that it’s time to use coping mechanisms to prevent them from spiraling.
April All-Phase Training Class
Our puppy raisers were hard at work yesterday during our monthly all-phase training class! We ventured into the backyard to work on performing skills in a distracting environment, and added some extra difficultly with toys all over!
Veteran Steve Meets His Match, "Fetch"
Introducing our second placement of the month! Veteran Steve from Kansas City was matched with Fetch! Steve and Fetch are a wonderful working team.
Fetch was raised by Lucy, Brandon, and Della! You all did a phenomenal job loving Fetch, exposing her to the world, and training her. We cannot thank you enough for your time and dedication. You raised and trained an amazing service dog.
We also would like to thank American Warrior Initiative and Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation for sponsoring this team! We couldn't do this without your support.
Congratulations, Steve and Fetch!
Happy Valentine's Day from some of our Heroes in Training! We wish you love, joy, and puppy kisses!
