Seven years ago today I set out on an incredible journey that would ultimately change my life. I had never owned a business before and I was absolutely terrified I would fail. I knew the odds were against me, but I was determined to build a place where dogs felt loved and the parents didn’t have to worry while they were in my care. There were so many unexpected things that have happened in this business, but the greatest of them have been the friendships I have made and how so many of you let me become a part of your lives and you became a part of mine. I have seen so many of you get married, have babies, get new puppies, and have grandchildren. I have also stood with you in tears and prayer when you have lost a pet or a parent or gone through something devastating in your life. Dragonfly really has become a family.

So much has changed in the last 7 years. We all survived a worldwide pandemic. We have seen our amazing little city become a place where it seems like everyone wants to be. We have grown stronger. We have reached higher than we ever thought we could and we have achieved goals we once thought were impossible.

With that said, it is with a bit sadness that I am here to announce the closing of Dragonfly Dog Spa at the end of this month. It is time for me to reach higher as well. To achieve a goal I once thought was impossible. I have accepted a full time staff position at Red Barn Animal Hospital and will be going back to school to be a vet tech and then on to the University of Tennessee to become a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner. Physical therapy services for dogs is a service we are severely lacking in our community and I am excited and honored that the Drs. Krum have given me this amazing opportunity to be a part of bringing this to all of us.

Liz Weber at the Wholistic Dog has generously offered to take on my clients. You will all love her. She has over 20 years of grooming experience and has been a friend of mine since 4th grade. Her phone number is 256-679-2061. Feel free to reach out to her, but please understand that she may get a little overwhelmed and not be able to immediately respond. This is a big change for her as well.

I can not thank you all enough for the years of loyalty, friendship, and love. To say that I will miss you all is an understatement. Please feel free to find me on Facebook and keep in touch. And if you ever find yourself looking for an amazing vet team, come join us over at Red Barn! We would love to have you come and grow with us there.

In Love and Light,
Renai Waggoner

So in typical me fashion, my idea for this year’s gift for y’all was way more complicated then I anticipated. Pinterest makes everything look so easy. Anyway, they are coming, after Christmas…..

Look for them at your next appt in the new year. 2024 schedules will be ready then as well. If you need to make changes to your schedule for next year, please post here or message me. If you do not have a recurring schedule and would like one, please message or post as well.

As many of you know, 2023 almost broke me. I spent 10 months living in an RV with my 3 dogs and giant bird. I stepped way back from the business to focus on rebuilding my personal life. Many of you fell through the cracks, and for that, I am deeply sorry. it was never intentional. Life throws us curveballs sometimes that we are not prepared for and don’t know how to deal with. I have a new home now and a new outlook on life to go with it. 2024 will be spent continuing my personal growth and rebuilding the Dragonfly Family. I wouldnt have survived this last year without you guys. So here’s to an amazing 2024!

Did you know that we have a pig rescue and a pig sanctuary right here in our community? Albie Einswine Minipig & Friends Rescue would love to have your leftover pumpkins! You can leave them on the sidewalk in front of the shop and I will get them to the piggies. There are currently 20 piggie friends waiting for their forever homes. Feed costs have increased over 20% in since Covid. Pumpkins help to offset that recurring expense.

Update 2: Zoee is still missing. She is extremely timid, so if you approach her she will bolt. She is a rescue, and has trust issues. Please contact me or her mom, Monika Glennon at 256-665-8772 if you see Zoee

Updated: $1000 reward for her safe return.

Please be on the look out for Zoe. She escaped from her car today while being dropped off and ran. She is likely to be hiding somewhere. She sometimes hides under the shed at her house. Please look under your outbuilding and porches. And share if you will. This is my HarperLee’s littermate. I’m very worried about her.

This post is long overdue, but until now I haven’t had the right words. As most of you know, Christie left the business in December. Her departure from the business also marked her departure from my life. After 19 years together, our season has come to an end. Our divorce was final last Thursday, and I am now the sole owner of the business.

This has caused major changes in my personal life as well as the business. With that said, I want to apologize to all of you. Admittedly, I have no handled things as well as I should have. Phone calls have been unanswered, messages left unreturned. Schedules have not been made. Change is very hard for me, and this has caused me to make a lot of changes in my life and business. I didn’t know what to do, and most days were very heavy.

But spring is a time of renewal and growth. I am embracing that this year. I have realized that sometimes change is exactly what you need. I will be taking more time off for things that nourish my soul. I will also be remodeling the shop. It needs a fresh outlook as well. I will need to close for a few days to accomplish this and I will be in touch with those of you already scheduled to accommodate this.

I am incredibly grateful for all of you. You have all shown me more grace, forgiveness, and patience then I deserve. You have laughed with me, you have cried with me, you have hugged me and held me up when I was falling apart. There were days when the only thing that got me out of bed was knowing that I would be spending time with your precious pups. So again, I thank you for your kindness and love. Thank you for being part of my crazy little dream. Better days are ahead.

So I briefly considered the Hunger Games approach to grooming appts. Something along the lines of “I have 5 appts daily at 8am. First come first serve” but maybe that isn’t the most sound decision.

New schedules are coming. Most of you will remain on your current schedule. I will admit that scheduling is the bane of my existence. Thanks to you all for being patient and understanding in this transition.

01/06/2023

Hello there! After a lot of thought, I have made the decision to not hire someone to help out. Training (and trusting) another person to meet my standards isn’t my idea of a good time. :)

So, over the next few days I will be tweaking the schedule a bit to make it workable for me. If you have specific scheduling requests such as a particular day of the week or time of day and how often, send me a message or post here. I will try to honor them, but there are no guarantees. I also anticipate that I will be fairly full, and as always priority is given to people on a prebooked schedule. If you do not have a prebooked schedule and would like one, post or message as well. I hope this will take less than a week and we will be all set for a fantastic 2023.

The New Year brings the opportunity for new beginnings. We have a fresh slate before us to create the life we wish for. Our personal goals and dreams can and often do change over time.

With that said, Christie has made the decision to chart a new course for herself and pursue the things that bring her joy. She will no longer be working with me here at the shop. Let’s all wish her well on her future endeavors!

So most of you know that 2022 has not been my year. So many things out of my control have happened. Being on the autism spectrum makes change even more difficult to deal with. We tend to want to shut down and hide from our new reality instead of dealing with it.

Two weeks ago we had a major fire on our property caused by the negligence of our neighbors. The majority of our woods were scorched. The forestry commission plowed a fire break around our wooded area containing the fire, but doing even more damage to the land. The positive of this is that our goats and pigs and our house were spared. The scar left on the lane is tremendous, but the scar on my soul is even larger.

I am out of sorts these days. I’m struggling to find balance. For two weeks I have been struggling to breathe. 2022 has not been my year. My hope is that 2023 will be much calmer.

Thank you all for you grace and understanding. Your pups are often the bright spot in my day. The friendships I have formed through this business have carried me in the darkest hours. I know I often fall short, and for that I apologize.

Here are a few photos of what is left of our beautiful woods.

Brownie’s mom is now an Instructor at Pure Barre! I seriously doubt she will ever see me in her morning classes, because not a morning person here, but if you looking for a new kind of workout with an amazing fun energetic instructor, you should check her out.

We are🌙over the moon 🌙 excited to announce long-time member Beverly Stroud is now an 🎉INSTRUCTOR🎉!! With over 1850 classes under her belt. we KNOW she will bring the 🔥🔥🔥 to every Classic class she teaches. Most of you already know Beverly, but 📚📚read on to learn more about what brought this 💇‍♀️hairstylist of 33 years to the mic.
Beverly has been involved with 🩰dance🩰 since she was three years old and has always enjoyed being active and 💪working out💪. But until Barre, she never found anything she could stick to. Eleven years ago a friend invited her to a Pure Barre class . She joined the Madison studio a year later and has being going 💪💪strong ever since.
She always wanted to become a 🎤Pure Barre instructor🎤, but the timing⏰⏰ wasn’t right until recently. Beverly has already taught several classes and says she wants her classes to be uplifting and welcoming. She can’t wait to help members challenge themselves and feel successful during and after class. She loves to hear members talk about how PB has changed their body and how they feel more confident & happy in their skin. She is also big on Hands on Corrections!
You can catch Beverly on the mic🎤🎤 on Monday
mornings, Saturdays and some Sundays.
Please make Beverly feel welcome by leaving a comment ⬇️❤️⬇️!

The time has come to make a most important business decision, and we need your input.

Are we doing Merry Cranberry scent again this season or are you guys ready for something new?

We are going to be closed this Friday to head over to Atlanta to pick up shampoo and stuff. So if you have an opinion, here’s your chance to voice it. 😂🐾😂

Over the last few weeks a lot of you have had a chance to meet Autumn. Well, these are her friends and they could use a little help.

This rescue officially started in August and they have already taken in over 20 mini pigs. They are self funding this, so any help they receive is absolutely appreciated. They are filling a much needed gap in our region. Caring for mini pigs is not cheap. They require regular hoof care, spaying and neutering, vaccines, ect. This is id the piggie they take in comes from a perfect place, which we know is almost never the case. Most mini pigs are in need of a lot of vet care as well and time and attention and socialization before they can be adopted out.

If you would rather purchase things instead of donating money, Albie Einswine Minipig & Friends Rescue, LLC will post their current needs in the comments. Feel free to drop them off here at the shop, or even better drive on up to Toney and snuggle some piggies yourself!

You guys are truly the best. You always come through with donations when I ask. And besides, who doesn’t love piggies?

Have-A-Heart Hoof Care is coming tomorrow and any help with this, Food (the piglets are starting to eat more feed) and the upcoming neuters is greatly appreciated. Even just a few dollars can help us make a difference.
