People ask me all the time for my favorite skincare ingredient - Vitamin C? Retinol? - I love them both (and many others), but the secret to great skin is the same as the secret to a healthy body - nutrient-rich food, healthy fats, lots of water - these make our body work well and make us feel good.
It's the same for our skin, but getting skin to retain nutrients and hydration can be tricky (especially as we age - sorry). This is where serums come in.
Skin is like a tiled roof with cells overlapping each other and when they're dry, dehydrated or irritated they pull apart, resulting in loss of moisture and a dull, slack texture (sorry, again).
Serums, because of their nutrient-rich formulas and thin texture pe*****te deeply, expand the cells and seal them together, so skin is plump and smooth. Serums contain the superfoods of skincare and can deliver them to the lower layers of the skin (where they're needed most), and very importantly, they VASTLY improve hydration (your cells ability to attract and retain water), which makes all of your skincare products work better, plus it drastically improves your skin's health, which makes us look better. :)
