Meet Tripp!
Happy #FosterFriday from Tripp! This adult pup was stressed when he arrived at DCHS last month, so we placed him with one of our volunteer foster families while he waits to find a new home. Boy, is he thriving!
Tripp is having fun playing with his foster's other three dogs and all the squeaky toys. He enjoys going for car rides and walks. He also loves receiving pets, and his foster brushes his beautiful coat daily.
"He also is pretty food motivated. With that being said, he is eager to learn and extremely smart," says his foster, adding that Tripp knows sit, down, and stay. "He is an awesome dog that has a lot of love!"
Does Tripp sound like he could be a good fit for your family? Contact our Adoption Center to set up an appointment to meet Tripp. To learn more about him, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt
Even though Volunteer Appreciation Week is coming to a close, our gratitude and thanks for our volunteers never ends. We are so fortunate to have over 1,000 dedicated volunteers working alongside staff helping people help animals in our community. We appreciate each and every one of you! Thank you!
Meet Lily, the Tri-Pawed Senior Pup!
Happy #FosterFriday from Lily! This sweet little senior (about 10 pounds!) arrived at DCHS in February. We noticed she wasn’t using her right hind leg well and sometimes not at all. Our veterinarians determined she had a dislocated hip and needed a femoral head ostectomy. We placed her with a volunteer foster family to recuperate after surgery and work on physical therapy, but Lily refused to use her right hind leg.
Ultimately, our veterinarians made the decision to amputate her leg. Now that she’s healed, the foster reports tri-pawed Lily is more energetic than before. Lily wants to receive more pets and play more. “It was a nice surprise,” the foster says.
Lily loves receiving attention and happily met her foster’s coworkers during trips to the office. She also loves taking advantage of nice weather by going for walks, running around outside, and sunbathing. Lily also met an older dog who was mellow and did well, sniffing each other before going their separate ways.
“Lily is a perfect sweet little angel that deserves nothing but the best!” her foster adds.
Lily is looking for a patient female companion to love and keep company. Her ideal home would not have other dogs so she can have all the space and attention for herself.

Oreo and Twix Adoption Update
Oreo and Twix, fka as Larry and Mo (more white), came to DCHS at the beginning of March and were adopted a few days later.
The two were hiding and chattering their teeth when the guinea pig siblings met their new family at the shelter. “I was so shocked when I got them home that they immediately changed into calm, happy piggies,” the family recalls.
The family is giving them lots of love and in return hears lots of purrs. The piggies even allowed their new family to trim their nails.
“Even the smallest creatures know when they are wanted and loved. Welcome home piggies!” the family adds.
March is Adopt a Rescued Guinea Pig Month. In celebration, we’ve reduced the adoption fees for guinea pigs to $15 for the rest of March. Looking for a little critter who’s big on love? To view available guinea pigs and other pets, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt

Meow! Meow! Thomas the Tank Engine is ready to board the express track to your heart. He can be shy at first, but then becomes very friendly and loves receiving attention. His engine is always purring. He enjoys laying near people and munching on treats.
Thomas the Tank Engine is looking for a family who will shower him with attention and treats. He's staying in a staff member's office, so ask for him in our Adoption Center, which is open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturdays. To learn more about Thomas, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt

Meet Junior!
Happy #FosterFriday from Junior! This 11-month-old pup was transferred to DCHS in January from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Staff saw that Junior seemed stressed in the shelter, so we placed him with one of our volunteer foster homes. Boy has he come out of his shell.
Junior is an energetic pup who warmed up quickly to his foster family. He is a leaner and snuggler, and he thinks he’s a lap dog. Junior is also eager to learn and has been easy to train. He walks great on leash, even when walking with the foster’s dogs. He would also make a great running partner as he trail runs really well.
Junior loves playing with his foster’s dog of a similar size, and they play very well together sharing toys and running around the yard. Junior would like to play with the foster’s smaller dog who is not interested in his puppy energy, so the foster has been working with Junior to leave the smaller pup alone.
He is quiet when in his crate overnight, and he rides well in the car. Junior loves squeaky, rope, and nose-work enrichment toys, and chewing on bones and sticks.
Junior is looking for a home with no small children. If the home already has another dog around his size, Junior could make a great friend for that pup. He’s looking for an active family to run and play with, and who will continue working with him on his positive reinforcement training.
Think Junior would make a great addition to your family? Contact our Adoption Center to set up an appointment to meet him. To learn more about Junior, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt.
Adopt Pearl!
Happy #FosterFriday from Pearl! Pearl, 8 months, was transferred to DCHS in January from an overcrowded shelter in Texas. Upon her arrival, we saw she was frightened. She didn’t want to come out of her kennel, not even to go into the yards. We work hard to meet each pet’s individual needs, and what Pearl needed was time in one of our volunteer foster homes.
After a few days in foster, Pearl began coming out of her shell, playing fetch and rolling for belly rubs. “She’s a goofy pup who loves balls, tug toys, and bones. She also loves her owl stuffy. She will take a snuggle or petting session any time,” her foster says. Pearl also adores the 13-year-old child in the home.
Pearl does very well with being crated and she knows sit. She’s curious but shy around other dogs, watching them but doesn’t bark. She’s not fond of walks yet because she’s sensitive to noises, but the foster has been working on building her confidence.
“Pearl is the absolute sweetest girl,” the foster adds.
Pearl is looking for a patient family who will continue to help her build her confidence while also providing plenty of snuggles and play time. Pearl has been at the shelter for a bit, so she’s a member of our Lonely Hearts Club and her adoption fee has been reduced. Contact our Adoption Center to make an appointment to meet Pearl.

Dogs Looking for New Families

Help Queenie Heal
Our friend Queenie is in need of your help. She's missing two toes and most of her large heart-shaped paw pad on her left front leg. Queenie is in pain and refuses to put weight on her paw, whimpering at times when it touches the floor. Our veterinarians have determined the best path toward Queenie's long-term wellbeing is to amputate her leg. Unexpected medical challenges like this add significantly to budgeted costs, so we're reaching out to our community to help Queenie heal.
To support Queenie's medical needs, visit https://donor.giveshelter.org/page/Queenie

Any additional funds raised will be used to continue the work our Animal Medical Services does every day to provide high quality medical care to thousands of companion animals each year.

SNOW much fun with Poppy
Poppy was having SNOW much fun running around in the yards yesterday. And how nice of her to shake off the snow from her toys, too! Poppy is an adult pup who LOVES people. She enjoys receiving pets, snuggles, and treats; playing fetch and with various toys; and going for walks and on fun adventures.
Poppy is looking for an energetic family who will continue to work with her on her positive reinforcement training while spoiling her with lots of attention, activities, and love. She's staying in a quieter area of the shelter, so ask about her in our Adoption Center, which currently has little wait to meet pets.
Poppy is a member of our Lonely Hearts Club, and her adoption fee has been reduced. To learn more about Poppy, visit www.giveshelter.org/adopt
Jasmine
For this #TakeMeHomeTuesday with Madison Minutes, we'd like you to meet Jasmine. When Jasmine first arrived at DCHS she was quite shy. As you can see, and hear, she's come a long way!
Jasmine is an adult looking for a relaxing home and someone who will give her time to adjust. Once she's comfortable she will happily greet you with meows and head bumps. Jasmine is supervising a staff member in an office. If you'd like to meet her, please ask about her in the Adoption Center.

On Friday, we introduced you to a van full of puppies we picked up from a rescue in Southwest Wisconsin. These pups weren't getting any adoption interest there, but we hope they'll find new homes through us soon! Our medical team has evaluated everyone, and they will go into surgery for spays/neuters starting tomorrow.
As a private, community supported nonprofit, donations make it possible to extend a hand to other organizations near and far to save more lives together. Thank you!

Gemini Adoption Update
Happy #Caturday! Gemini, fka Elsa, came to DCHS at the end of August in 2021. Since her stay with us had been a bit longer than others, Gemini became a member of our Lonely Hearts Club to help her chances of finding a home. She was adopted in October 2021.
“Gaining her trust has been a journey, but she is my bestie,” her family says. When she first arrived at DCHS, Gemini was sensitive and avoided being picked up or touched near her stomach.
“That is no longer the case,” her family explains. “She greets me at the door every day and waits for me to scoop her into a big hug. She is still sassy, but I believe it’s because she knows she’s pretty so she’s just a diva." Check out that video of her just soaking in all the love and attention!
“She loves sunbathing, her scratching posts, and her new spring toys. She also loves my heated blanket so much it’s basically hers," they add. "Classic Wisconsin girl as well because she loves to steal cheese whenever she sees it."
Would you like to make a difference in the life of a Lonely Hearts Club pet? These animals have been with us for a bit, and their adoption fees have been reduced. Visit www.giveshelter.org/lhc to view Lonely Hearts Club members and www.giveshelter.org/adopt to see all pets available for adoption.
