Thank you, Debbie Anaruk Rash, Mary Lou Ramirez , Henry Lowenstein , Robin Landwirth , Diane Gregoli Marchand, LouAnn Cleary , Deb Brennan, Laura Anne Bevan, Kati Sebring and many more beloved friends for helping Windhorse Sanctuary get through these last few months. It has been a difficult time for all of us here. Most of you do not know that I was unexpectedly hospitalized (I am fine!), and out of work for a few weeks, which really put us in a bind. Thanks to all of you, the Sanctuary will be back on its feet soon, the animals will be fed and cared for and we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. We are so grateful for your kind generosity. It takes a Village, and this is the Village I am talking about.

Today is Charlie Beinn's 3rd birthday. He was adopted as a puppy, but developed some behaviors that caused problems in the home. He came to us at Windhorse Sanctuary and has thrived as a farm dog. We are so happy to have him with us and we have established a positive relationship with his previous owners, who care very much for him. Happy Birthday, Charlie Beinn!

Chupie...the laziest 5 pound cuddle bug around. He gravitates to clean sheets and fluffy blankets, has learned to cover himself and then he sacks out. The only time he gets up is when the other dogs bark. He wants to see what's happening, then back to bed. Lazy. But really cute.

Welcome to Lamb Chop Land here at Windhorse Sanctuary ! A huge thank you to
Kati Sebring, who sent us a box full of Lamb Chops of all sizes for the pups. They all love them, but Sugar is the biggest fan, taking them from the other pups when they're not looking and adding them to her pile. Fun for everyone! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Windhorse Sanctuary is in need of canned dog food and monetary donations for horse feed and blacksmith care. We are still digging out from under the Hurricane Idalia damage to the farm and resources are tight. If you would like to help by making a donation, we have a link on our website at www.windhorsesanctuary.org.

Here at Windhorse Sanctuary we always have one or two "mowing dogs", the ones who don't care how loud the tractor is or how hot or cold the weather is, they just want to be with you in the field. Buster and Victory have always followed me around as I mowed. Ava is very timid but she sometimes comes along, usually at a distance. Now that Buster has left us, she decided to step up and be my pasture buddy today. She has come a long way from being a sickly puppy at death's door, dumped at the Greenville shelter to our beautiful big hound dog who loves to climb a fence, ride in the car and wants to be a part of everything happening here at the farm.

Windhorse Sanctuary lost another super senior this week. Shiloh, a big, tall Quarter Horse was starved by his owner here in Madison County. Many people called to ask the county to intervene and they asked for our help to educate the owner about nutritional needs of senior horses. We donated several bags of feed, but Shiloh continued to deteriorate in his owner's care and he collapsed against the fence. More people called the authorities and the county asked us if they could bring him to us.

They had him transported to our farm that afternoon, and the vet was called to evaluate his condition. We were told that he would probably not survive the night, and we started him on small handfuls of grain and hay to get him eating again. Shiloh fought back. He was determined to live. We treated his rain rot, gave him plenty of space to graze and slowly introduced him to the rest of the herd.

Shiloh was a great horse and a protector of the weaker members of the herd. He LOVED to eat and fiercely guarded his feed bucket. Shiloh has been with us for over 8 years. He was 36 when he left us this week. Happy Trails, old boy. We loved you and will miss you terribly.

Wishing our friend, colleague and co-conspirator Barbara Hastings a very Happy Birthday from all of us at Windhorse Sanctuary . Barbara has helped us by evaluating, vetting, spaying, neutering and training nearly 50 displaced dogs from Madison County and getting them into carefully approved, loving adoptive homes. Barb has also shared plenty of dog food and toys with our pups. Simply put, she's the greatest! Thank you, Barbara for all you have done to help dogs in need, and for being a great friend. We miss you!

It's a very sad day here at Windhorse Sanctuary . Our sweet donkey, Enchilada left us to go be with his family. Enchilada was born on our Sarasota farm over 40 years ago. Dave brought his mama and papa, Ponce and Penny home from a BLM wild b***o adoption event. Enchilada had a sister, Burrita and the four of them were inseparable until Burrita's passing, shortly followed by Penny's at our farm in Williston. Ponce and Enchilada were together here in Madison , and Ponce passed a few years ago, leaving Enchilada on his own. He liked people and dogs more than other horses and donkeys, and he would rather hang around the barn all day with us than go out with the rest of the herd.

Enchilada was always excited when he saw the feed bucket coming his way. He brayed so loudly that the whole neighborhood knew when it was feeding time. He was a sweet boy who quietly went about his day...until it was time to eat. Enchilada had the most beautiful ears and rubbery smooshy nose. We are still amazed that he was over 40 years old and only recently started to show signs of aging. He was ever present on our farm, seeing, doing and being a part of everything we have done here at Windhorse Sanctuary from the beginning. A long life well-lived, but this is a tough one, especially for Dave. It hurts. Happy Trails, Enchilada. You were loved.
