The Halloween Lights are happening again this year. This is an important fund raiser for the shelter and a fun kickoff for the holiday season for the community.

Our thrift stores will reopen Friday and Saturday (9am to 2pm). Our volunteers will be there to help with your shopping.

These are the September adoptions. We're so glad these kitties and pups were at their new homes when Hurricane Helene came through.

Update 10/10/24 — the thrift stores will reopen this Friday 10/11 and Saturday 10/12. The shelter is still closed.

The shelter and thrift stores are closed until further notice.
This gives us time to work on cleanup and a major repair job. All of the animals are doing well, but visiting with them is not possible right now.
Thank you for your kind words as we deal with hurricane damage.

All animals made it safely again. Thank you for all the prayers.
The outside of shelter wasn't as lucky. The shelter and thriftshops will be closed until we have power of course and hopefully we can do some repairs. Dog kennels, outside dog play kennels,carports that cover kennels,water pipes, and some roof issues and etc will need some TLC.
No phone lines, can't answer emails and no intake of any animals at this time.

We are as secure as we can be here. Everyone plz be safe and remember if there's no power the shelter or thriftshops won't be open. Phone lines will be down so we won't be able to return calls and please don't leave any animals at our gate. We are over capacity now and only can keep what we have safe right now. Lots of prayers to everyone

ICYMI, one of our member's taped this morning's WCTV pep rally segment that featured the Madison County High School Cowboys with Faith and Cuddles from the shelter.

Our kittens are growing up fast. Two sets of siblings enjoyed some quality playtime in the cat room today. 3.5 month old siblings Stella (brown tabby), Alma (brown tabby) and Corey (white tabby) were in the playroom for the first time today. A fun time was had by all (including our photographer). Stop by and meet these cuties, all are spayed/neutered and ready to go home with you today.

There is joy when bringing an older cat into your life. With that said, we'd like you to meet Abby. August 14 will be her 10 year anniversary at the shelter. Abby has the run of the cat wing during operating hours. She usually spends her days on her bedding watching from the cat food rack. When she's so inclined she will go exploring to see what's going on with the other cats and visitors. At the end of the day, she'll go back to her kennel. We've attached a video that show's how she returns to her kennel at the end of the day - be sure and turn on the sound. If you have the time and the desire to welcome and acclimate this lovely girl into your home it would be a win-win.

Ethel is finished the first part of her journey and ready to travel on and see new sites. Thanks to Jack and Barb for the ride, and have a safe trip back to Florida.

Photos at “J&B’s Florida Dog Bed & Breakfast” of Ethel. Ethel left SVHS about 2:00 pm and is settled in for the evening with Jack and Barbara. How to tell her what a short night this will be??? The next leg of her journey begins around 3:00 am. She will travel for about four hours and meet the transporter for the rest of the trip to MotorCity Greyhound Rescue -motorcitygreyhoundrescue.org This rescue group has found a foster family for Ethel. Check in tomorrow for more details on Ethel’s trip to a different life.
