Hunter safety doesn't just apply to humans - we need to keep our working dogs safe too! Here are some tips to get the most out of your hunting season and avoid a trip to urgent care:
➡Use high visibility gear (blaze orange looks good on both you and your dog!)
➡Update their vaccines and use year-round flea and tick prevention (we highly recommend the Lyme vaccine)
➡Confirm their microchip is in place and working (ask your primary care vet to check if you're not sure)
➡Keep their collar on, and make sure it has your name and phone number
➡Have a first aid kit (ask your primary care vet for what to pack and how to use it)
➡Take breaks for water and snacks
➡Don't let them drink from lakes or ponds (they may have a deadly toxin called cyanobacteria)
➡Be aware of the temperature (they might overheat before you do)
➡Let them warm up and cool down, just like you would before and after heavy activity to avoid injury
➡Don't let them eat from carcasses and be aware of possible toxic plants and venomous/dangerous animals
➡Consider training to wear dog boots to protect their paws
➡Keep them leashed when possible, and make sure they have flawless recall even when distractions are present
➡Keep them crated while in the car (it's the safest place for them to be if there's an accident)

Honey's got her priorities straight: 🥇hot dogs and 🥈snuggles. And we love to oblige!

We're treating Honey for lymphoma using oral chemotherapy. She loves her treatment days—all she thinks she comes in for is snacks and extra attention!

Vader may not have the opposable thumbs required for Pugsley Addams-level mischief, but he gets points for rocking this costume! Dr. Cat helped Vader get back up and running when he came in with two lacerations needing sutures. Now that he's feeling better, he can go back to playing with his fur siblings and training to be a hospice visitor.

Let's hear it for Tee! He's our first patient to complete the "CHOP protocol" for canine lymphoma: 16 chemotherapy treatments in 19 weeks. Tee was diagnosed with large B cell lymphoma in June and started CHOP chemotherapy with us right away. He went into remission quickly and been feeling fantastic.

We saw Tee for his final planned treatment in late October, and had a little celebration for him and his family. We already miss seeing this lovable guy every Thursday, but wish him a long remission! 🎉🙌

Thoracic, or chest, ultrasounds, are total underdogs! They focus on the lungs, and while they're usually pretty boring to look at when lungs are healthy, they can help us spot fluid, masses, and even pneumonia (sometimes a day or two before it shows up on an X-Ray).

Please keep your eyes peeled for an escaped animal in the Elkhorn area, particularly Bray Road! We've been told he is 5'5", 150 pounds, covered in brownish-gray fur, with large fangs and claws. This "upright canine" loves feasting on roadkill and digging ancient burial mounds, and honestly smells a bit like rotting meat.

Of course, he's been on the loose for about 100 years!

The Beast of Bray Road is one of many Wisconsin-based cryptids. Learn about him (and do give us a call if you see him): https://www.pbs.org/video/the-beast-of-bray-road-and-embracing-the-strange-k5ngzf/

Cheaper, quicker, and designed to catch emergent issues, a point of care ultrasound (POCUS) looks at your pet's bladder, kidneys, spleen, and gall bladder to see what care they might need. Dr. Lisa breaks it down.
