We love giving our pets special treats, toys, and gear during the holidays. If you have a bit to spare, you can help spread that joy to the Dane County Humane Society too! From now until the new year, stop by our clinic to grab a gift tag from our giving tree in the lobby, purchase the item, and return to the clinic. We also have an option for cash donations, and info on how to contribute directly to DCHS if you prefer. 🎄

This year, we're thankful for our clients, staff, referring partners, and community—you were there for us when we opened, grew with us, learned with us, and celebrated with us. We'll be here for you if you need us this Thursday for urgent care services.

If you notice a problem with your pets this Thanksgiving, don't wait to get it checked out! The most common issue we see on holidays is pancreatitis caused by eating too much rich food.

Sometimes, being a vet is just cool. Miss Luna is a hunting dog who lately couldn't stop sneezing. Dr. Lisa tried out the rhinoscope to see if she could find what was bothering her.

Here she is with her prize: a hefty blade of straw-like grass that Luna had snorted up her nose! This sweet girl is feeling better now that she's got a few less inches of grass up there.

Hunter safety doesn't just apply to humans - we need to keep our working dogs safe too! Here are some tips to get the most out of your hunting season and avoid a trip to urgent care:
➡Use high visibility gear (blaze orange looks good on both you and your dog!)
➡Update their vaccines and use year-round flea and tick prevention (we highly recommend the Lyme vaccine)
➡Confirm their microchip is in place and working (ask your primary care vet to check if you're not sure)
➡Keep their collar on, and make sure it has your name and phone number
➡Have a first aid kit (ask your primary care vet for what to pack and how to use it)
➡Take breaks for water and snacks
➡Don't let them drink from lakes or ponds (they may have a deadly toxin called cyanobacteria)
➡Be aware of the temperature (they might overheat before you do)
➡Let them warm up and cool down, just like you would before and after heavy activity to avoid injury
➡Don't let them eat from carcasses and be aware of possible toxic plants and venomous/dangerous animals
➡Consider training to wear dog boots to protect their paws
➡Keep them leashed when possible, and make sure they have flawless recall even when distractions are present
➡Keep them crated while in the car (it's the safest place for them to be if there's an accident)
