Can you tell that Henry is loved? 🥰 This sweet pup came into our emergency service paralyzed in his rear legs. The emergency team evaluated him and a neurologist was called in to perform an emergency MRI and surgery. Just over two weeks later, he was able to walk into the lobby to see Dr. Lau for a recheck. We are so happy for him and his family. ♥️🐾

Sophie and Inara may be very different sized patients...but the both underwent the same surgical procedure called a hemilaminectomy after MRI revealed the cause of their paralysis. They each came in to the MVS neurology team unable to walk, but were back on their paws just a short time later at their recheck appointments. We're so happy for both of them and their families. 🐾🐾

Fendi is a 4 year old Shih Tzu Mix who came into our emergency room two weeks ago when she became unable to use all four of her limbs. She also had a severe skin infection. Luckily, Fendi is as strong as she is cute. She was transferred to our neurology team and after an MRI, she was diagnosed with a C5-C6 disc herniation. Fendi underwent ventral slot surgery to decompress the spinal cord right away. She came back for a recheck last week and was walking—just in time to celebrate the holidays! ♥️🐾

🐾 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Retiring Heroes! 🐾

A huge thank you to Onyx and Lucas for their incredible service as MVS blood donors. Together, they’ve been part of our program for 9 years, making 24 life-saving donations! 🩸

Now, after all their hard work, they have officially aged out of the program and are entering a well-deserved retirement. We wish them both a lifetime of happiness and relaxation! A special thank you to their parents for their commitment to the program as well.

Thank you, News 3 Now / Channel 3000 for highlighting this!

MVS is now offering extracorporeal therapy, sometimes called "dialysis for pets". We currently are the only veterinary hospital in the state with this program and are proud to be bringing it to Madison.

While this can be life-saving for cats and dogs, we are also in desperate need to blood donors. Blood products are required in order to perform this therapy and we rely on our team's pets and pets in the community for this. There are some great perks to your pet being a blood donor, including free annual bloodwork as well as heartworm & flea and tick prevention.

You can learn more about your pet being a blood donor on our website here: https://www.mvsvets.com/our-services/blood-bank/

A twofer-Tuesday: ♥️🐾

Scooby came to MVS in October unable to walk with his hind limbs. He had MRI and surgery with Dr. Delamaide for the disc herniation that was causing his paralysis. We are happy to report that he is showing improvement and is back up and walking!

Jordy came to us 4 weeks ago being paralyzed in his back legs. Dr. Lau and the neurology team did an emergency MRI and surgery that night and he was able to walk back in for his recheck two weeks later!

Three weeks ago, Kiko was having a blast at the dog park when a playful encounter went a bit too far, and he got pinned by another dog. Right after, Kiko couldn’t use his back legs and became non-ambulatory. An MRI confirmed he had a condition called Acute Non-Compressive Nucleus Pulposus Extrusion (ANNPE).

ANNPE happens when the jelly-like center of a spinal disc suddenly bursts out, hitting the spinal cord at high speed and causing injury. Unlike a typical “slipped disc,” this material doesn’t compress the spinal cord, but can cause weakness or even paralysis from the impact. ANNPE can happen from sudden movements or trauma, like what happened with Kiko.

The good news? ANNPE is generally non-painful and often responds well to rest and supportive care if some movement and feeling is preserved - no surgery needed! We’re thrilled to see Kiko back on her feet after just three weeks. Here’s to many more happy (and safe!) playdates at the park!
