who, what, and why...
taking care of, and rescuing abandoned or feral cats is an expensive venture, i created “a place for benny” to help with the cost of food, shelter, and vet care of the kitty’s in my care. for care i do, they are more than strays, more than “just cats”...each one is special, has something of value to offer, and they mean a hell of a lot to me. there must be a place for all the “benny’s” out there. this is just the start, will add more later once i figure out what i am doing. everything made will be made with care right here in madison indiana.
why name this a place for benny, and who is benny? benny is a feral cat born in the alley behind my house. i fed him and his siblings, built them shelters, and cared for them. i got benny and his sister joon fixed and thought i had found them a good home. sadly that was not the case. the people who took them were not truthful from the beginning and told me they had a barn, acreage, and would be a great place for them. after they left, maybe it was something said, maybe it was a gut feeling, but i felt something was wrong. over the next few weeks i asked for them back on numerous occasions and was told no and that the cats were fine, i offered cash and after i found out he was an avid hunter i offered a $700 rifle in trade, was still denied. desperate to quell the nagging feeling that something was wrong i contacted a friend who’s mother in law lived near the property where the cats were and i asked for permission to park there overnight while i did a midnight “raid” to get my cats back, while speaking to them they asked what my cats looked like. i showed them pictures and lo and behold there was joon, she had been living under my friends in laws porch for over 2 weeks. as i soon found out the people i gave them to, apparently did not live at the property (her parents place i guess) and the cats were released into a barn full of hunting dogs, so scared they took off. wouldve been ok if they told me, i would have come and got them. but they lied and kept telling me they were fine. so now, joon lives with me, has been through an ordeal but is a loving girl. i have been searching for benny now for a little over 3 months, have met some amazing people who have helped me look, allowed me to traipse through their property at all hours, and i will always be grateful for their kindness. there is and always will be a reward for his return and i will never give up on him, until i find him or find that he has a proper home. so i named this venture “a place for benny” in his honor, for there has to be a place for him.
