Cutting Edge Equine Care: Covered ✅

Our first patient trotted into the covered arena last week, marking the opening of a state-of-the-art facility for where UW Veterinary Care clinicians and SVM students treat and train. This warm and safe space provides an ideal environment for conducting lameness evaluations and monitoring gait, making this facility an invaluable resource for our equine care capabilities.

Last week, we were honored to be recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms, and Explosives for the care provided to K9 Tutty here at UW Veterinary Care.

Tutty, an ATF Accelerant Detection K9, faced significant challenges earlier this year after being diagnosed with T3-L3 myelopathy and chronic intervertebral disc herniation. The Companion Animal Fund, supported in part by gifts in memory of beloved pets, funds SVM research on various animal health issues. Studies funded focus on prevention and treatment options so pets can live longer, healthier lives. Projects include comparing feeding tube types for hospitalized dogs, treating feline infectious peritonitis, and investigating the cause of Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome in hedgehogs.
Learn more about the scope of work we support through the Companion Animal Fund.

The Companion Animal Fund is supported by donations from veterinary medical clinics with which the school has established strong ties, as well as individual donors whose animals have been patients at UW Veterinary Care.

Does your cat have a beautiful smile? They may be just the feline we’re looking for! A clinical study in genetics is looking for cats 10 years or older, with a full set of teeth and showing no signs of resorptive lesions. They may qualify for a free dental cleaning and full mouth radiographs to ensure their oral health. Plus, it’s a chance to contribute to important research.
If your cat is confirmed healthy, we’ll collect a tiny blood sample while they’re under anesthesia.
Clinical research allows us to develop new and more effective diagnostic and treatment options. UW Veterinary Care clinicians and staff are dedicated to raising the standard of care by using the latest technologies, while also performing research to advance veterinary and – and oftentimes human - medicine now and in the future.
