Two new babies for us to love on!!🐶🐱

Lottie and Binkey had their first visits with us this week! ✨

Mrs. McCurry brought Lottie to see us and get her puppy exam done! All checked out well! She loves snuggles and sleeping right now, though she had a lot of excitement when visiting us!

Mrs. Blanchard brought Binkey to us for his first kitten exam and vaccination the other day! He loves playing with Moms shoes! He’s just a little thing right now but we can’t wait to watch him grow!

Have you ever had kidney stones? Did you know your dogs and cats can get stones as well? These are bladder stones we surgically removed from a 10 year old spayed female canine!

Here are some signs and symptoms to watch for:
- Blood in urine
- Increased frequency of urination
- Urinating in smaller amounts than usual
- Abdominal pain
- Lethargy

What to do if you notice any of these signs:
- Call your vet!
- Be prepared to let your Veterinarian know when the issues began, what food your pet is currently eating, if there have been any similar issues in the past and any changes in the home or stress inducing factors.

Typical diagnostic testing to expect:
- Urinalysis
- Ultrasound
- Radiographs

Typical treatments for bladder stones:
- For minor cases, your vet may recommend passing a urinary catheter to attempt to flush the stones out of the bladder.
- For more extreme cases, such as the pictures below, your pet may require a cystotomy, which is surgically going into the bladder and manually removing the stones.
- Your Vet may also recommend changing your pets diet to a Urinary food, such as Purina UR, to help dissolve any stones and help prevent the issue from recurring.
- Oral antibiotics are also typically prescribed

What you can do at home to help prevent stones:
- Keep your pet on a Veterinarian recommended diet! Purina, Royal Canin, Hills Science Diet and Iams are some foods that are highly recommended by the Veterinary community!
- Foods with high protein, magnesium, or phosphorus can increase the chances of developing bladder stones.
- Prepare your pet for any high stress events! Ask your Vet team for calming medications if you are getting ready for a move, travel, holiday festivities, etc!

January is National Train Your Dog month!🐶

Here are some reasons you should train your dogs and helpful tips! 🦴

- Training your dog can build a stronger bond between the two of you!
- By addressing any problematic behavior through training, your pet will be more well-behaved in many environments and make your life easier!
- SAFETY: Does your dog pull on the leash when walking? Lunge at other animals/people? By training them with leash walking, your dog will be less likely to harm themselves, you, or others!
- Socializing your dog is a HUGE deal! Take them out in public (when completely vaccinated), let them be around others in a controlled setting to allow them to get used to new/different environments! This will also teach them impulse control and help with their vet visits!
- Acclimate your dog to car rides! You may not plan on taking your dog on car rides, but it will help drastically in emergencies if they are already comfortable in a vehicle!
- Mess with their paws, ears, tail, etc! Getting them used to these things help tremendously with their vet visits! Nail trims, ear cleanings, and medical exams become so much easier and less stressful for you AND them when they are comfortable being handled by others!

There are several helpful resources out there that will give you tips and knowledge on training your dog! We will list some below!
