Restocking our dog version of chicken fried rice tonight. The puppies are 9 days old today. That means Prim has eaten 6 pounds of chicken, 20 cups of brown rice, and two dozen eggs with shells since having the puppies on Tuesday. That is in addition to unlimited dry kibble and fat bomb doggy meatloaf. Well fed mamas make well fed babies.

Look at little Bug squished between his two big brothers Samba and Rocco. Bug is the smallest puppy we have ever had weighing just 6.2oz when he was born. He is a ornery little guy and has doubled his birthweight in just 1 week. He is not considered a runt technically but Nick has taken to calling him squinny.

Seven sweet babies with full bellies! We have two smaller puppies at 6 and 7 ounces respectively. The rest are 10-14 ounces. Tomorrow we will introduce them with individual photos and names. For now, please welcome Prim’s V-Dub Club. A tribute to Gramps Sugardoodle who was a lifelong collector of VWs (Volkswagens).

Before Prim started having her pups I had started this post…
I had a “helpful supervisor” as I did the final prep in the puppy nursery yesterday morning. Mama Nala is always by my side to make sure I am doing things right. 😅

We haven’t been available to do our usual routine of “Puppy Watch” posts as we count down the days until we meet our new litter. Prim is indeed very pregnant and starting to den down so puppies are coming this week. 🐶

Sadly, we said our final goodbye to Gramps Sugardoodle (Jill’s dad) this weekend. He was always a sucker for the dogs. 😇

We appreciate your understanding and promise, as always, nothing but the very best for Prim and her babies.

Today’s memory! Six years ago today our year long wait to bring home the perfect puppy to be the foundation mother of Sugardoodles by Smith ended when we brought this beautiful girl home. Nala has been everything we hoped for and has blessed many families with a dog to love. Her daughters Prim and Sunny have now taken the torch and will continue to bless families over the next few years.

We took a quick trip away before Prim’s puppies come later this month. Our house sitter sent us this. Rex is a bonafide movie watch party snuggler. If you want a snuggler like him, his puppies are coming soon!

Dog math! It is a bit early to verify but all things point to Prim being pregnant. We will be able to know for sure soon.

She will deliver around June 19th. Her puppies can be wavy or curly and they are light red, champagne or cream in color. Expected adult weight 35-50lbs.

Sweet Barley (was Captain from Prim’s Spring Break Spirits) is learning the ropes to be an office dog at his family’s health and wellness clinic. ❤️

Meet our newest team member, Barley :)

Barley is an 11 month old golden doodle who will be spending more and more time at the clinic in the upcoming months. Plenty of love (and kisses) to go around!

Like sands through the hour glass…

One thing you have to keep in mind as a breeder is that the best laid plans are all subject to Mother Nature. She is actually the one in control.

Rex and Sunny had a lot of fun playing together but we do not believe there was any honeymooning. We could have missed it but it isn’t very likely.

However, Rex was very insistent that Prim is the lady he wanted to spend time with. They have been successfully honeymooning the past few days.

Imagine the soap opera storyline. Rex left Sunny for her older sister! To be continued…

This is Connie and Cooper (was Big Bird, Nala’s Sesame Street litter). They earned their therapy dog team certification and have started doing the work. Notice how serious Cooper is while wearing her vest but how very happy she is at home off duty. This gal knows her job!
