We're wrapping up 2024 with a TNR project in Asheville. This weekend we trapped ten adults for trap-neuter-return and six kitten siblings for foster, socialization and eventual adoption.
And boy are they cute!
Please consider making an end-of-year donation to help us continue to be there for cats and kittens in need in 2025.

Three pretty ladies back home in Candler after their trip to the clinic.

This guy picked the right business to show up at. When he appeared a few weeks ago our friend, Pam, started feeding him and reached out about getting him neutered and vaxed.
This week she was able to trap him and we took care of the rest. We also brought her an insulated shelter for him to help keep his newly shorn boy parts warm in this cold weather.

When Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina we shifted gears from our normal mission of TNRing cats to, among other things, the rescue of cats who survived horrific flooding.
Marmalade was one of those cats.
Her family's home flooded up to the roofline and Marmalade was too frightened to be rescued with her family. We headed over a couple of weeks after the storm to try and locate Marmalade and get her back with her family.
This is her rescue and reunion.
We're still working on locating cats who survived flooding to get them back with their families.

Our buddy Kiki had his major dental a few days ago. All his remaining teeth were removed with the exception of his canines.
He's still critical and hospitalized and struggling to eat. Today he'll have a second surgery to place a feeding tube. We're hoping if we can give his painful, infected mouth time to heal that he'll start eating enough on his own again to sustain himself.
He's still in good spirits. Send this sweet guy good juju.
We received a call from Bethany a few days after Hurricane Helene. She was reaching out on behalf of her friend, Miah, who lived in Old Beacon Village, one of the hardest-hit areas in Swannanoa. Miah needed help recovering her two cats, Perry and Dickie, believed to have survived the flood.
Miah, a 911 dispatcher for Buncombe County, was at work the morning her neighborhood started filling up with water from the Swannanoa River. Her neighbors frantically calling 911 for help as they fled into their attics and onto the roofs of their homes to escape the quickly rising water.
A couple of days later, when Miah was finally able to get back to her house, Perry and Dickie were nowhere to be found. However, Miah did see cat footprints in the nearly foot-deep mud that now filled her home.
We immediately went over and set traps. We continued to trap every day for the next month. During that time, we trapped and reunited several cats with owners who didn't know their cats had survived. But no sign of Perry or Dickie.
We set up a couple of feeding stations with cameras and finally on November 4, we caught Dickie on camera at one of the feeding stations. Up to this point, we didn't know for sure if he and Perry had survived or not.
Amazingly, a few days later, neighbors saw Perry scurry under a house and were able to get him into a trap.
Dickie was very hit and miss at the feeding station. He'd come at 3am one night then we wouldn't see him for several days. There were a couple of other cats we would see and we were worried they were chasing him off, so we trapped them both. Both intact males. Once they were gone (we're holding onto them to TNR back to the area soon) Dickie started coming more regularly.
Last night we went to trap and finally caught Dickie! We are so relieved that he's safe and soon to be back with his mom and brother, Perry.
We've worked a lot in this neighborhood and feel like a part of this little community. We've witnessed firsthand the suffering t
This is our new friend Weeble. She's just about a year old and has what we believe is a very mild case of cerebellar hypoplasia. She wobbles, mostly in her back end, when she walks.
She's been living in a community cat colony in East Asheville that we're TNR'ing this week. She's so friendly and sweet and because of her mobility issues we asked the caregiver if we could hold onto her for adoption and they agreed.
She's at our vet today getting a check up and needs a foster home. If you'd like to foster this beautiful girl, or even better, adopt, you can fill out foster or adoption apps at sisterkitten.org.

This little guy showed up at a friend's house in Yancey County. Had she not trapped him quickly he likely would have ended up as food for a much larger animal.
He's ridiculously handsome. We are working on sweet. Please welcome Nervy to rescue.

Got the last two females from a project in Leicester spayed this week. This gal flipped a u-turn coming out of the trap.

We trapped this gal the week of Hurricane Helene and she popped out a single kitten in our trap and then acted like she never saw a kitten before and didn't know what to do.
Fortunately, our adoption coordinator, Angel, is quite maternal and jumped in to save the baby. Who is still doing great.
We were finally able to get mom spayed this week thanks to the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance.
She was very happy to be home.
